"If the Knicks deem McDyess out for the year, they can request a $6M injury exception (half of McDyess' salary) to sign a free agent. But since there's no decent player available, the Knicks could trade the exception, with a draft pick, to a cost-cutting club and get in return a big man making $6M."
With Dice out this year (or maybe for most of the year), I guess it may not be too soon for Layden to start thinking of next year. Man, I hope he doesn't pull off any trades that makes the team marginally better and fall too far from the LeBron sweepstakes.

You think we could trade the exception for /////odom or Richardson since the clips won't resign them anyways?
interesting. I am not sure the Clips would be a candidate that would pop up - more like a team that was kind of salary strapped but who wanted to make a free agent splash next year. Think Minnesota or Seattle.

Minnesota and Seattle doesn't have anything they would give up just for the exception.
