WARNING: Before you respond, please read ALL.
I know trading Frye is an INSANELY unpopular "venture" among Knick fans nowadays.
Yes, I realize he was All Rookie.
Yes, I realize he's a 6-11 big man that can shoot.
BUT......... I look at it this way --
* Management has backed itself into a corner (our option are LIMITED)
* Frye is our best bargaining chip
* The PF we NEED is 1 that defends and rebounds (not 1 that shoots)
* We can't really afford another losing season
................................
I mean c'mon, think about it.
Marbury's going nowhere.
Either is Curry.
Or Crawford
Or Nate Robinson (Slam Dunk Champ...)
or Jerome James (virtually untradeable)
etc, etc.
..............................
Now, I like Frye. He has a good work ethic, says the right things, and has almost unlimited range for a guy his size.
But consider this -- Let's say he continues to get better. At this rate, he won't be at the level we need him to be (which is to be more of a defender and rebounder) until 2-3 years from now MINIMUM. Like I said before, can we really afford another lottery season? Can Isiah?
On top of that, I'd argue from a personal standpoint that David Lee means just as much if not more to this team's present AND future than Frye does. He rebounds very well, passes, runs the break, and most of all, DOESN'T NEED SHOT ATTEMPTS.
And I've seen a bunch of "CURRY VS. FRYE" threads and polls, saying how we'll eventually need to choose 1 over the other. I'm quite sure without looking that Frye has a better PER, and a better +/- for the team. And I've read all about how Curry SEEMINGLY can't/won't get better, and how he's overrated, BUT..............Curry can do more for us NOW AND IN THE NEAR FUTURE than Frye can. He's far more dominant a presence on the court. He has more potential (if we are to believe he can indeed unleash it), and MOST OF ALL ---- Isiah wouldn't dare trade him yet.
ALSO........It seems THIS is the year, for ANY chance of targetting the PF we need. (an All-Star caliber big man that can rebound and defend). We won't have any cap space or lottery picks next year, nor any expiring contracts. And even with that 60 Million coming off next year, it won't matter.............management won't stop spending. This offseason we have 2 expiring pieces to work with (Taylor and Rose), along with 2 draft picks, and of course..... Channing Frye.
.................................
Let's take a look at our options:
Jermaine O'Neal -- Long shot, but is a low post presence and a defensive force. Also has a relationship with Isiah, and we all know how Zeke can massage a situation in just the right way (Curry deal). In this scenario we'd be forced to be mostly a half-court team.
Shawn Marion -- Frye's from Arizona, plus Sarver's looking to cut cap to resign Diaw and Barbosa, so there's def. a chance there. Marion is another defensive presence, and would make us a formidable fast paced team. Probly our best option out there.
Tyson Chandler -- With T2's camp saying Chicago has guaranteed his spot at 2 in the draft, it's possible the Bulls shop Chandler around, to see what kind of value they can get in return. He'd be a nice compliment to Curry on the weakside, but of course if we traded for him, 3/5 of our starters would be from the Bulls, and that would be a little weird......
Ben Wallace -- Noticeably P'd at Detroit's supposed coaching blunder in the playoffs, Big Ben may not return to Motown. If so, and b/c he's a restricted FA (correct me if I'm wrong), then Dumars will most likely look for a S&T to get the most value in return.
Kevin Garnett -- The reunion Steph's been waiting for. KG would easily make us a contender next year. He's still playing some serious ball, and the Wolves might very well consider dealing him if reports are true...

DLee is the best thing to happen to NY in Isiah's 4 year tenure.
And that alone, though a positive on the radar, is sad as hell.
