I agree with the conventional wisdom - if the Heat hope to dispatch with Detroit, they'd better do it tonight on their home court. If Miami doesn't win, the advantage shifts to Detroit.

Wade has the flu -I'll bet he has a great night - players often seem to have great games when they have the flu.

Totally Ot: Anybody else getting tired of seeing this guy with the hole in his throat?

Shaq is amazing tonight. 9 rebounds and 19 points in the first half. If he keeps this up, I think Detroit really is "done".

not enough 3 pointers from detroit, i guess. but at least they had more "fun" playing for flip.

game is over.

this is what miami did. they drafted caron. then drafted wade. two lotto selections. then went after brand...but he was matched. so they signed odom. had a nice young core to build with. but they immediately shipped out two of them for an older shaq knowing the window was only 2-3 years.

how would you guys feel if we did something similar? or would you guys be happy to keep a core of wade, odom, and caron and build with that?

Sure if you can land one of the top centers in the history of the NBA and motivate him to play like he did when he was in his twenties, get back a real legendary coach that you let go, and oh yeah get probably the best player from the 2003 draft. Yeah that should work.

if ny did anything similar it has to be championship in focus. none of this building crapola, building future, foundation, long term blah blah blah.

when miami went after shaq they had only one thing in mind.....championship.

and its called a promise

The problems for us would be on a number of fronts.

Without a legit star or one beginning to blossum (ala Wade when they aquired Shaq), we're already behind the 8 ball. We're also not in a position to aquire a top flight player without giving up youth/expirings. Which would set us back even further cap/draft wise.

The level of competion has gotten better the last 2 years, making an immediate championship even more difficult. Everything has to go right, injuries, consistancy, etc. Having so little room for error or bad luck, makes me nervous as hell. In 2-3 years, teams like Dallas, Miami, Detroit & San An will not be the same.

Miami for example:
Is going to be in a tough spot once Shaq, Zo and the Glove decide to hang em up. They're left with a team probably just good enough to sneek into the playoffs. J-Will and Walker can't possibly compliment Wade enough to offset the loss of Diesel.. Who is in their frontcourt again, they basically sold their souls for this!

Develop youth- Channing, Lee, Woods, Nate, Butler is a good start.

I was too, but oh well. I'm still rooting for Phoenix the most, but if the Mavs end up winning then I'll root for D'Wade. Either way, nice to see the Heat coming together and seeing Shaq put his ego aside and be a great teammate. He seems to be growing up maybe just a tad, even though he's 90.
