Kings Hire Musselman
2nd June, 2006 - 5:25 pm
ESPN - ESPN.com's Marc Stein is reporting that Eric Musselman has been hired by the Sacramento Kings to be their new head coach.

A press conference is scheduled for Saturday.

The Kings also interviewed Golden State assistant Mario Elie and Sacramento Monarchs coach John Whisenant for the job, and during the last week, each of the three candidates has been rumored to be the front-runner at some point.

On May 9th, it was reported that Rick Adelman, head coach since 1998, would not return. [READ]

If LB was going to get fired I seriously believe he would have been fired by now.

even if the pistons loose tonight and are eliminated, I tend to think GMS and owners around the league have a different opinion of Brown after the horrid season he led the knicks through.

You can talk about players not playing the right way and being flawed, the fact is, LB had 41 different starting line ups. That says something.

Factors that went into 41 different starting lineups.

1. LB's inability to settle on a starting lineup
2. Injuries to Marbury, Frye, Curry, Richardson
3. Trades that brought in Starting players like Francis and Rose
4. The fact that the Knicks had a mish-mosh of players, many of who were clones of each other and were not put together well by the general manager.

THE COACH is the ONLY one responsible for how the team plays and WHO plays. Once the team is put together, its up to him to figure out how BEST to use those players. LB FAILED to do his job. He was looking to separate himself from this team in CAMP!!! He's a COWARD!!! Instead of accepting the challenge he wanted to make it seem like this team was unworkable. Lenny and Herb had LESS and did more. I don't wanna hear anymore excuses for LB. He's the HOF coach with the rings and HUGE contract, then he has to deliver. I don't care if they gave him a rec league team, he should've done a better job.

See people like to attribute these things to something so corrupt, like senility or sabotage. I believe he did it because the chemistry of the prior season's team was horrible. Case in point was Isiah breaking Shandon Anderson's league leading iron-man games played streak in front of his hometown and family after having bought 50 tickets for them. His 350 or so consecutive games played was broken in front of his family out of spite. LB thought the contrary approach of letting guys show what they've got in front of their family would be good for moral and give guys an opportunity to showcase themselves in a starting role they might not ordinarily have.

It was well intentioned thing that I don't think had any ill effects, but it did add to the number of lineup, which people just love to roast Brown for.

I guess the Sixers should have never let him take them to the finals since his first two seasons were 31 and 28 wins respectively.

you know, a guy that's been around for 30 years or so may know sooner than later what and who would work and who wouldn't. i mean, maybe he should get the benefit of the doubt there. and less than 2 months into HIS regime, d'antoni traded away steph + penny. don't make this out to be some isolated incident of a coach wanting to get rid of some players. it happens everywhere. you're just shocked b/c this is the first time in ny we actually have a coach that demands personnel changes instead of towing the company line. there's a reason jvg left and pjax passed.

And after going to the conference finals last year don't the Suns have like 9 new players this year?

Also, from Larry:

]"I left Detroit. They came within a game of winning the championship and got six new players. San Antonio won a championship, got six new players. We won 23 games, so to sit here and think we’re going to stand still is kind of silly."

Lets be real. Marbury & Penny were both moved because they both had contracts that neither of them would have ever been able to live up to. Penny was being paid like he was Penny of 7yrs ago. Marbury was owed money like he was a guarantee to lead them to the playoffs, and a shot at the WCC or Finals for the next 5yrs. I have no Idea why they gave him that much, but they did. Its simple to me. Using logic if you weren't guranteed to be in the playoffs with a shot at the title for the next few yrs would you rather have a PG owed like 100mil for the next 6yrs & an old shot SG owed 45mil for the next 3 yrs or see what you could do with a young PG with potential making under a mil & a young talented lottery pick making like 2.5 - 3mil, for a season. Oh by the way you have Marion & Stoudemire to fall back on. Pheniox isn't like NY where they could have salaries like that for a long period of time, not be in championship contention, and somehow still make profit. Plus at that time they were thinking about how they could resign Joe Johnson & Stoudemire with Marbury & Marion both maxed out. Everything with the system and all that other stuff is all a distant 2nd to that. NBA is a buisness first.

Isiah's view was we was already screwed with Houston's contract. So take the shot with Marbury. Put Marbury & Houston together & form one of the most exciting backcourts in the nba. Its clear he overpaid. But Houston going down was definatly the killer. At least with Houston here it would have been so bad.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
All the fans who are pissed at Brown have every right to be. All the fans pissed at the players have every right to be. All the fans pissed at Isiah & Dolan have every right to be. Brown is just cappable of making us good again. No need to even defend him for last season. But there is reasons to defend why he should get another shot.

LB should have listened to his wife and done this in the first place. She said when Isiah was recruiting him that she wanted Larry to take a year off.
