Ultimate knicks should go to the show and protest! Phuch Dolan!

BROWN HEARS NOTHING NEW
By MARC BERMAN

June 1, 2006 -- For the second straight day, Larry Brown conducted a clandestine roadside interview with Knicks beat writers 200 yards from the team's practice facility. Brown maintained yesterday that president Isiah Thomas has left him in the dark on his future.

Asked if Thomas approached the coach about his remarks from Tuesday, in which Brown called himself "a dead man walking," Brown answered, "He didn't say anything."

"I'm assuming I'm the coach," Brown added. "That's what I'm going to do. Coach the Knicks."

Asked if he deserved more respect, Brown said, "I'm not commenting. I'm the coach. I'm doing the workouts."

Brown did not leave his vehicle this time. He stopped his car by the side of the road, rolled down the window and spoke for about two minutes before pulling out when TV cameras arrived. In an odd twist, a Knicks photographer was on hand, documenting the stakeout.

Brown has told friends he's going to feel awkward next Tuesday when he heads to Orlando with Knicks brass for the annual pre-draft camp. The camp is attended by most NBA GMs, scouts, coaches and media. Brown said he doesn't know what to say to any of them, and the Knicks may shield him from the media.

The pre-draft camp also is a job fair of sorts, so Brown obviously will have to be careful.

Thomas still hasn't had the guts to approach Brown about the doomsday reports. Owner James Dolan is plotting a Brown divorce, and some insiders believe there's a method to his madness.

Dolan may be trying to gain leverage over Brown, making him so uncomfortable he'll take a buyout instead of getting strung along. Agent Joe Glass has maintained Dolan will have to fire Brown so he would collect all $40 million remaining on his contract.

Dolan also may be trying to provoke Brown into doing something he regrets. Or Dolan could be so upset at Brown's 23-59 performance that he's trying to humiliate him. Some players and executives have wondered if Brown had an agenda different from making the playoffs, worried he was more consumed with making roster changes than winning.

Tonight, Dolan will play bass guitar in his blues band that has a gig at a midtown club. Hopefully Dolan's strumming won't be as off key as his actions the past 21/2 weeks.

Stanford senior Danny Grunfeld, son of former Knicks GM Ernie Grunfeld, who now runs the Wizards, was in his glory yesterday, working out for the Knicks.

As a child, Grunfeld used to run around the gym during Knicks practices, getting pointers from Pat Riley, Don Nelson and Jeff Van Gundy.

"From the day I was born to the first 15 years of my life was orange-and-blue," Grunfeld said. "It's a dream come true to even work out for them."

Grunfeld tore his ACL as a junior and played in a knee brace his senior year. Considered a likely lottery pick before the injury, Grunfeld likely is a second-rounder now.

"I have to show my knee is 100 percent," said the former Franklin Lakes, N.J., resident. "Someone asked me what knee I hurt. I said, try to see when I'm working out. They guessed the wrong one. Bernard King 20 years ago had the same injury and that was in the Stone Age. He came back and was an All-Star."

Indications are the Knicks were most impressed with Tuesday's group that featured UConn defensive big man Josh Boone. The Knicks have the 20th and 29th picks.

Knicks send a photographer? weird!

Brown should teake a buyout because Dolan as a condition to his getting a full payout would include a gag order. Larry cannot keep his mouth shut!

Nalod - do the Greenburgh Police earn overtime by managing cars around Larry Browns in-traffic press conferences?

Isn't this stalking routine getting a bit tired for even the NYC media?

Can Isiah acquire Al Harrington in exchange for a few guards, Jerome James and a few prime Broadway tickets?

Can Jalen Rose play off-guard with some moxie?

Is it time for Summer League yet?

If Boris Diaw can play the middle for the Suns, can david Lee cameo at quick center for the Knicks?

Is Lastings Milledge the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth?

once a knick always a knick

What's silly is the amount of time we devote to this topic. The Knicks season is over. The Semi-finals are happening. This will all get worked out by the beginning of next season. Or it won't.

Whatever.

I agree BasketballJones. Berman sounds upset that there is no one to get a quote from. Isiah isn't talking and he shouldn't be expected to. This is Dolan's doing and he will do what he wants in his time.
