I'm just pissed at the fact guys are allowed to walk into training camp fat and out of shape. Teams should get to fine and suspend the player indefinately. There should be a fatigue test or something that players must pass according to their size and weight to right away hold guys accountable.

If the fail this test more than once their contracts should be void. They are professional atheletes. if they are not in shape ready for their jobs they should be rendered un fit for duty!

Teams should also have trainers assigned to players if they fail the test. Those trainers should be on NBA payroll, and they should act as police and make sure the players are in shape.

I'm just tired of this ****! The knicks had a lot of fatties last season. If you want to be rich you have to do your job. Its just bull****.

Are you guys with me on this?

The union is very powerful, but being in shape and ready to play should be part of your contract..If you are not in shape for camp or game one then it can void your contract, team's decision, you can be a free agent again..It doesn't make sense for a contract to be guaranteed and the players isn't able to perform because he chooses not to be in shape..Just insane...

I know it could be looked upon as a subjective thing, but I'm sure they can come up with a standard if they wanted to... At some point some one will have to introduce this at the bargaining table..

Yep, this is something we can all agree on. The only exception should be if the player was recovering from an injury or something.

What pisses me off is the way we (NBA) manage the salary cap. I don't know much about the NFL (as I'm not a big fan), but I like some of things they do. Like salaries being incentive/performance-based and the ability to restructure after time.

Yeah we have a bunch of those. JJ, Mo Taylor both came in out of shape. I think its a work ethic thing. You just don't get these types of players. Once you got them, its on you IT.
A glimmer of hope maybe?!?

We should just tell Mo Taylor to stay home this year and J-fat to a fat farm.

If the NBA took the NFL model we would not have any problems. I beleive the guaranteed contract makes these spoiled and immature players act the way they do.

I don't know about terminating there contracts. But they should have something like take 25% of there contract for that yr or so if they come to camp out of shape without it being due to serious injury problems.

The NFL model would be great. But the only way to pull that off is to basically force a player strike and basically start a new NBA with all these young players who aren't paid big yet and rookies coming from college. Eventually after the yrs go by it would become the norm.

Actually it falls on the coaching staff. When Riley was coach of the Knicks he placed all of his players on a year round exercise plan. Riley made threats to heavily fine any player that showed up out of shape. Riley coaches 365 days a year. It was up to Herb to make sure that his players were following a plan. Brown also had enough time to speak with players and have his staff evaluate player conditioning.

Riley had clout and support of the front office to do these things. If Herb fined and suspended or benched players and then lost those games he would have been fired. Without power coach's can't do anything and it doesn't matter how good a coach you are players will run all over you.
