my spider sense tells me that big ben may no longer be happy in detroit. the team is getting away from the defensive intensity under flip and his shot attempts are way down, back to carlise territory. he just hired an agent too. ben is 31...going on 32. he'll probably command something like 5 years $50 mil. ben is a big part of their team but will detroit ante up $50 mil to a 31/32 year old? they still need to re-sign chauncy in another year too. now, should we jump in here and offer us a curry for ben deal? why should they do it? b/c they're getting a 23 year old replacement center. why should we do it? b/c we need a leader and defender more than anything else. ben will begin the transformation of the attitude and culture the team has. he'll give us a couple of good years but he would be great for someone like channing. (on a side note, if this is possible, and we somehow get a pick up in the lotto, we can take o'bryant or shelden for the long term). so, would you trade eddy for big ben?

I would.

But Ben wouldn't want anything to do with this pile of **** NY team, I would think. And Dumars would simply roll his eyes at that proposal. If they were willing to trade Ben, who is the heart & soul of that team, they'd get something much better and cheaper than Curry.

Ben Wallace will re-up with Detroit no doubt.
DLee is the best thing to happen to NY in Isiah's 4 year tenure. And that alone, though a positive on the radar, is sad as hell.

yeah, I think we should trade Big Ben for Curry. But once we do that we really need to trade Nate Robinson for Lebron. I know it sounds nuts, but Cleveland isn't going to want to pay Lebron, Nate is cheap, a slam dunk champ and has a better outside shot than Lebron. To make the package more enticing we can send them the 29th pick. But I really don't want to give them the 20th, I'm holding that back for Dirk.

Wishing everyone well. I enjoyed posting here for a while, but as I matured I realized this forum isn't for me. We all evolve. Thanks for the memories everyone.

unlike us, many teams have to make decisions with cap in mind. the already have sheed, rip, and prince signed up with extensions. chauncy comes up after next season. and ben is unrestricted now.

the chances of them letting ben go are slim...BUT IN THE EVENT that he is exploring the market and forces detroit's hand, i posed this question. i think a curry for ben is a good package for detroit as it gives them a young replacement center that would not be asked to do too much with the other 4 pieces in place. and sheed would help him out just like AD helped him out in chicago.

i don't know dj. i read in the paper this morning that ben's upset that the pistons are deemphasizing defense so much. i think he's gone on record a few times this season as being frustrated with that.

my thought is if you replaced ben with curry the team would lose 10-15 victories.

I agree that Detroit might have to look to move Ben- but curry's value could not be any lower.

I'd trade Ben Wallace for Jackie Buter before I took Eddy Curry.

Curry had his worst season as a pro, looked like he took a major step backwards and comes with a major contract.

I'm not saying Dumars would take butler, just saying if you had to trade wallace for one of the two...

And even if we could get wallace, we have to make trades and FA signings with a five year plan- and wallace would be wasted here...

I think the bidding would have to start with Frye and Curry for Ben. The only way that would get pulled off is if Ben insisted on coming here. I think Slim hit the nail on the head in his reply yesterday.

here's the article:

Ben Wallace blames Saunders
Chris McCosky / The Detroit News

Ben Wallace, the NBA's defensive player of the year, can't stomach being on a team that allows the opposition to shoot nearly 60 percent in two of the last three games. In fact, he said he can barely recognize the defense his team is playing in this series.

"It's like night and day (from last year)," he said. "We've gone from like the first- or second-best team in the league in holding teams to low field-goal percentage to now we're in the middle of the pack. It's night and day."

He put some of the blame on coach Flip Saunders for putting too much emphasis on the offense.

"We work more on offense," Wallace said. "We practice more on the offensive end, than we do on the defensive end. What you practice hard you usually bring to the game."

To be fair, the Pistons locked the Heat down for all but 1:46 of Game 2 and set playoff records in holding the Cavaliers to 61 points in Game 7. The defense has been inconsistent, yes, but not altogether horrible.

"It doesn't matter how I feel," Wallace said. "No one player is bigger than the team. I don't think we're that far off. Some nights, we come out and show it. Some other nights, we come out and go through the motions. We're not that far off. We just need everybody to get involved defensively and commit ourselves to getting it done on both ends of the floor."
