Denham Brown Birthdate: 1/6/83 NBA Position: Shooting Guard College: Connecticut Class: Senior Ht: 6-5 Wt: 220 Hometown: Toronto, Canada High School: West Hill Team Site Profile 2005 Stats
NBA Comparison: Kirk Snyder
Strengths: Shooting guard with solid all around skills ... Excellent scorer with underrated shooting ability, but can be streaky ... Unselfish, team player, very coachable ... Great attitude, hard worker ... Nice athlete, good decision maker, instinctual ... Plays under control, solid fundamentals ... Good body strength ...Good vision and passing skills at the 2 position ... One on one skills have improved along with his ball handling ... Excellent free throw shooter ... Wants to take the big shot, and is clutch as he proved against Gonzaga winning the Maui Invitational with a closing second shot ...
Weaknesses: Has yet to put together a standout college season ... Average first step ... Quickness is good but not great, he isn't a superstar athlete, but is solid ... Ball handling ability still needs improvement ... Doesn't really stand out in any area, besides his offensive game ... A year older than the rest of his class ... Stats get limited somewhat playing at UConn with so many great players ... Has struggled sharing time with Rashad Anderson at UConn ... Average size and athleticism makes him an average defender, but he gives solid effort ...
Notes: Has performed incredibly well in International competitions for Team Canada, with big scoring outbursts playing against professionals ... Once scored 111 points in a high school game ...
21 Josh Boone Birthdate: 11/18/84 NBA Position: PF/C College: Connecticut Class: Junior Ht: 6-10 Wt: 237 Hometown: Mount Airy, MD High School: West Nottingham Academy Team Site Profile 2005 Stats
NBA Comparison: Brian Grant
Strengths: Long, explosive bigman ... Blue collar guy, does the dirty work to help his team win ... Has a great attitude, plays hard, wants to improve ... Strong defensively ... Explosive leaper, with good timing and instincts on blocked shots ... Giant wingspan gives him added size ... Fights hard for rebounds, hustles for loose balls ... Big strong hands, when he gets his hands on a rebound it's his ... Has a big, strong frame and should be able to add another 5-10 pounds without losing much mobility ... Should be able to see time at the center position in the NBA ... Runs the floor very well, excellent transition game ... Good vision and passing ability ... Scores well around the basket ... Has a nice turnaround jump hook ... Knows his limitations offensively and plays to his strengths ... Has excellent durability having missed just one game in his college career ... Quick feet, very nimble for his size ...
Weaknesses: Limited offensively ... Scores a majority of his baskets on dunks, put backs and shots around the basket ... Struggles from the free throw line ... Can get down on himself when things aren't going well, needs to become better composed ... Not a superstar prospect, his upside is limited somewhat by his offensive shortcomings ... Needs to develop better offensive post moves ... Must develop a consistent mid range jump shot ... A little rigid in his upper body, not fluid with his ball skills ...
#2 PJ Tucker Birthdate: 5/5/85 NBA Position: SG/SF College: Texas Class: Junior Ht: 6-5 Wt: 225 Hometown: Enloe High School: Raleigh, NC Teamsite Profile 2005 Stats
NBA Comparison: Mario Elie
Strengths: Has a great combination of strength and athleticism ... Intense competitor ... Scores a lot of baskets by overpowering defenders with his tremendous body strength ... Plays with a lot of toughness. Extremely aggresive, intimidates opponents with his nasty demeanor ... Explosive leaping ability and has the strength to go inside and finish ... Strong one on one skills and looks to drive to the basket ... His ability to create shots for himself off the dribble has improved ... Strong defender ... Tremendous rebounder for a 6-5 player ... Great speed in the open court ... Free throw shooting has shown steady improvement ...
Weaknesses: Scores the majority of his points close to the basket ... Lacks a 3 point shot and any real range on his shot ... His passing ability has shown some improvement but he lacks great vision to find teammates off the dribble ... Can be selfish at times looking only for shots for himself ... Lacks great skills for a guard and great size for a small forward ...
#20 Steve Novak Birthdate: 6/13/84 NBA Position: Small Forward College: Marquette Class: Senior Ht: 6-10 Wt: 220 Hometown: Brown Deer, WI High School: Brown Deer Team Site Profile 2005 Stats
NBA Comparison: Kyle Korver
Strengths: One of the purest shooters around ... Effortless release on his shot ... Has a lifetime free throw and 3 point shooting percentage higher than JJ Redick ... His range extends easily out to NBA 3 ... A player that cannot be left open ... Only missed 18 free throws over his entire college career ... Could fit a role as a specialty shooter on the next level ... Very crafty player ... Competitive, good decision maker ... Has good size and length which helps him to get shots off ... Gets the most of his abilities ... Steps up in big games, put up 41 points leading Marquette to a win over UConn in his senior year ... Showed steady improvement each year, and stepped up as the team's leader as a senior taking Marquette into the NCAA tournament ... Passing skills and vision are decent ... His body strength has shown steady improvement ... With added strength he has become a better rebounder ...
Weaknesses: His game is fairly one dimensional as a spot up shooter ... Over 2/3 of his FG attempts are from 3 ... Athleticism is well below average, his speed and agility is poor ... Doesn't get much lift, rarely dunks the ball ... His foot speed limits his overall effectiveness ... Not a highly aggressive player, some of that has to do with his lack of body strength ... Shies away from contact ... Has no real back to the basket game ... A defensive liability. Lacks the foot speed to defend small forwards and the strength to defend power forwards ... Doesn't have the speed or ball handling to create shots for himself ... He can struggle to get looks if an athletic player is defending him ...
#11 Daniel "Dee" Brown Birthdate: 8/17/84 NBA Position: Point Guard College: Illinois Class: Senior Ht: 6-0 Wt: 180 Hometown: Maywood, IL High School: Proviso East Team Site Profile 2005 Stats
NBA Comparison: Erick Barkley
Strengths: The one-man-fastbreak is a blur on the hardwood and if you aren't quick enough, don't expect Mr. Brown to wait for you. While firing bullet-passes, his dribbling and distribution skills are as good as anyone's. A capable scorer, when he decides to show it, he can set the nets ablaze in the blink of an eye. Also a true leader with his constantly moving motor-mouth, expect him to make the All-Quote First Team.
Weaknesses: You first have to look at his size, barely tipping the 6-foot mark. His ability to guard against the bigger guards is still up in the air, but don't think he will fail for lack of effort. Also can get into pass/shoot modes; He looks to involve his teammates immensely and will pass up his own shots for the sake of others, or, where he attempts to tire out the scoreboard operator single-handedly.
#3 Gerry McNamara Birthdate: 8/28/83 NBA Position: Point Guard College: Syracuse Class: Senior Ht: 6-2 Wt: 182 Hometown: Scranton, PA High School: Bishop Hannan Team Site Profile 2005 Stats
NBA Comparison: Scott Skiles
Strengths: Extremely clutch player who hit numerous clutch shots especially at the end of his career ... A fearless shooter who will pull up from almost anywhere ... Shows unbelievable heart for the game ... Great work ethic and attitude ... Could be the perfect bench player, as he brings great energy and leadership to the club house ... Gives solid effort defensively ... Excellent one on one player with great ball handling ability ... Breaks down defenders with ease and is deadly when he utilizes his cross-over to create space for his shot .... Solid assist to turnover ratio, protects the ball well and makes good decisions ... Has the leadership qualities you look for in a point guard ... A winner, won a national title as the starting point guard as a freshman with Carmelo Anthony ...
Weaknesses: Undersized and unathletic ... Has no real leaping ability, but as a point guard that's less of a concern ... Very crafty at creating shots for himself, but with the speed and athleticism of players on the next level he will find it a lot tougher to create shots ... Lacks true point guard skills, more of a natural shooting guard, although his point guard skills have shown improvement ... Lacks great foot speed, so opponents can get by him ... Gambles some defensively although he has improved in that area ...
