Stephon Marbury Q & A

It goes without saying that Stephon Marbury and the New York Knicks didn’t have the season they or their fans had hoped for. But despite the injuries, his team losing and all the drama surrounding Larry Brown, Steph still managed to put up 16 points and six assists per game, and remains one of the most talented point guards in the League. Just ask the Nuggets, whom he gave 25 and 13 in March. Or the Suns, who got 32 and 10 in January. We caught up with Steph a couple days ago at the Manhattan Mall for a quick Q & A.

Dime: Have you been watching the playoffs?
Marbury: Yeah, of course. I went to the Detroit game the other day, Game Seven.

Dime: What’s different about the playoffs than the regular season?
Marbury: The thing is - and I always tell people this - there’s only one winner at the end of the year. Cleveland, they went home. San Antonio, they went home. Everything is predicated towards doing one thing, and that’s winning the championship. If you don’t do that, you’re just like everybody else.

Dime: The last time you were in Dime was for our Ink section a few months ago. Have you gotten any new tats since then?
Marbury: Naw, but I am soon.

Dime: What’s been playing on your iPod lately?
Marbury: Today I was listening to some Beanie Sigel. But with my iPod, I’ll let it go on random sometimes, and sometimes I let it stay on the same album for a whole week. I listen to everybody. I don’t discriminate.

Dime: Been to any movies lately?
Marbury: The last movie I saw was ... ummm ... Stick It, that gymnastics movie (laughs). I saw that with my daughter. And I saw Mission Impossible. They were both good. Stick It was interesting, it was really interesting. [Gymnastics] is hard, man. That’s hard training. If you’re doing that, your life is committed to that, every day, all day. It’s harder to do that than to play basketball, than to be nice at basketball.

Dime: So what are some spots Stephon Marbury might hit up on a Saturday night in New York City?
Marbury: I’d probably go to Megu restaurant, or Buddakan; that’s on 16th and 9th. Or Philippe. Oh, and Mr. Chow, you gotta put that in there.

Dime: What are your plans for this summer? Are we gonna see "The Handler" come back to Rucker Park?
Marbury: I don’t know, I might. You never know.

NalodDime: So you think your the same as Stockton, Barkley and Ewing? Guys that never one a championship?
FauxMarbury: Im Starbury Bityotch!

NalodDime: Wait, you saying that making the playoffs once in your career is like losing in the championship game?
Fauxmarbury: Yeah. All the same, not a champion is not a champion!

NalodDime: What about the JuiceCard?
FauxMarbury: Looks like it might be out of pulp!

NalodDime: What was it like in Detroit?
FauxMarbury: At least now everyone know "Starbury" took it to game seven of a series! Yeah!

NalodDime: Uh, whom did you take?
FauxMarbury: Friends, cousins, yeah, I took it!

NalodDime: Isn't that bragging right for those who played?
FauxMarbury: Like I said, if you don't win, its all the same!

NalodDime: No no no, I meant that, well you weren't playing?
FauxMarbury: I heard you!

NalodDime: What do you think about the rumors out of NY?
FauxMarbury: Don't care, Starbury be comin again! Got my contract!

NalodDime: What does that mean?
FauxMarbury: Means unless you win the ring, we all the same!

NalodDime: The Dolan firing Larry rumors!
FauxMarbury: Be like going to the ATM and the aco****s dry. You put the Pin number in, but if its out of juice, you must be loose!

NalodDime: Have a nice summer!
FauxMarbury: Yeah, mine usually start real early. Starbury like his summers! LIke I tell eveyone, if you ain't gonna win it, might as well start the summer early. Don't get paid any different.

Funny stuff, but they do get paid differently, source of mine said it's done in cash, bags of it...It's scaled depending on the round.. Conference championship nets you over 6 figures, not bad summer spending money...

I dunno Nalod. You're normally funnier then this. Just sounds like senseless Marbury bashing to me. Which is cool and all. But personally, for me, its too old to funny anymore.

I think it's good to do smart/funny bashing, in case anyone in the NYK ranks actually reads these boards...They should know how the fans are responding to the current state of affairs! (Not that I actually expect them to care...)

And you are making him talk like Tarzan. "Starbury like his summers."
"starbury be coming again"

granted, Steph is not the most articulate player in the league, but he isn't exactly a slave either.

Lets try that again...........

NalodDime: So you think your the same as Stockton, Barkley and Ewing? Guys that never one a championship?
FauxMarbury: "Im Starbury", Female dog you appear to be!

NalodDime: Wait, you saying that making the playoffs once in your career is like losing in the championship game?
Fauxmarbury: It would appear that history does not celebrate those who finish in second place?

NalodDime: What about the JuiceCard?
FauxMarbury: It would appear that it has dehydrated!

NalodDime: What was it like in Detroit?
FauxMarbury: Detroit is a swell city. I enjoy automobiles like most American men. I really am buring with strong desire to do everything that my Knickabocker club can make it there. it is my job to see to it!

NalodDime: Uh, whom did you take?
FauxMarbury: Mother so does like Flip from my rookie days! She enjoys the midwest!

NalodDime: Isn't that bragging right for those who played?
FauxMarbury: Mother taught me never to brag.

NalodDime: No no no, I meant that, well you weren't playing?
FauxMarbury: Tee hee!

NalodDime: What do you think about the rumors out of NY?
FauxMarbury: Larry and i had a few disagreements. He is very knowlegable person and I am honored to play for him.

NalodDime: What does that mean?
FauxMarbury: I am humbled by the opportunity presented.

NalodDime: The Dolan firing Larry rumors!
FauxMarbury: I hope its not correct!

NalodDime: Have a nice summer!
FauxMarbury: Thank you.
