Why does Isiah deserve to keep his job?
Why does Isiah get as long as he wants to build a winner but every coach he's hired, including 2 Hall of Fame coaches, only get 1 year before they're judged unmercilessly while Isiah gets a free pass?
Why would you want a desperate GM to be the coach as well when desperation usually leads to short term panic moves that go completely against the philosophy of a team that needs to rebuild?

1) Generally speaking GMs survive longer than coaches because the coach is the final say on the court. Look around the league, it is not normal to see GMs change much but coaches move more than players. Most GMs normally discuss actions with owners prior to making a trade or free agent acquisition. It is hard for owners to say yeah, I was wrong on that move too including coach hiring.
2) Dolan gave Thomas a mandate to bring in either Phil Jackson or Larry Brown. Thomas delivered him Larry Brown. If you think that was Thomas' idea you are more nuts than I give you credit for.
3) Thomas has been on the hotseat in NY upon his arrival and even before when it was just rumored.
4) The owner and the current coach doesn't feel the organization needs to rebuild. Funny every single GM that's has grace this market has said you can't rebuild in this town due to fan expectations. Thomas said he wanted to rebuild at his initial press conference and was corrected by the owner saying that the goal was to make the playoffs. I can't remember the last Knick GM to spend more time at scouting draft players since I been following this organization. IMO, in years past, Knicks scouting consisted of turning on the NCAA tournament and saying that guy looks good.
And saying all that Thomas could be fired tomorrow and I could care less. Whoever they bring in here next I will support. Like I supported Layden, like supported Grunfeld against Van Gundy, Checketts against Riley, and God help me Stirling against everyone.
