LB is going to want more money than that. He's going to want most of his knicks deal plus a new deal from someone else... I don't think it's possible to trade a coach or get compensation on a coach we fire. the only way to get compensation is if he quits then tries to take another job.

im sure u can we got a 2 for van gundy

its not likely, but its a possibility

even if lb is fired IF he signs a new contract, the knicks are off the hook for the amount he signed in the first 4 years.

I don't think that's the way it works..... how about this:

Brown has indicated that he is either going to be fired or he's going to be coaching the Knicks next season - no buyout.

* First off, Cablevision would have to pay him $40mil that's remaining on his contract, whether he coaches or not. So if they need to hire another coach, that's eventually going to mean higher ticket prices and more advertisements at the Garden - and likely even worse service on the MSG cable channel.

* Also, it means the Knicks won't be able to dictate where Brown goes next; he could decide to move to a division rival (Toronto? New Jersey? Boston? All have had their doubts about their coach this last year; New Jersey led by Brown would particularly terrify me)

* Finally, it means the team would not get any compensation from the next team he coaches for. Usually it would come in the form of draft picks, which the Knicks will sorely need after their blunder last summer where they failed to protect any picks going to Chicago

if we fire him, doesn't he need permission before he takes another job?

I think the Knicks do have the option to kick LBrown into a Knicks' organizational role and then they can tell him to pull a Tim Thomas or something I guess.
