I think ITT hired Checketts back in 90. Ernie Grunfeld has always been part of the Knicks since his playing days. He moved in the front office.

Allanfan20 - Checketts signed Houston to crazy chedda. (hold up, I forgot who I was making refernce to) Checketts bothed the Ewing signing and eventual "Good Riddance" trade to Seattle. Checketts fired Ernie.

How can you miss that?

Here's another question for Knick wizards, how long have the Dolans owned the Knicks. And who were the previous owners?
NY KNICKS 4 EVER! Will we ever find players like Anthony Mason, Xavier McDaniels, Patrick Ewing again? I hope so.

Viacom sold ITT when they were acquired by CBS, to Cablevision. I think it was 95. Damn I still remember those dumb ITT commercials and then all sudden MSG was flooded with Wiz commercials.

Hey sometimes it works out and sometimes it doesn't. Jordan told the Jerrys to dump Collins and the rest is history. It worked with Ewing with Nellie too.

Earl, Layden and Dolan were in charge of that trade, and the fans and media drove Ewing out of town. We can put that blame completely on ourselves, and NOT Checketts. The Houston signing was very bad, but I think the fans overreacted tremendously. He gave us 2 very very good seasons after he signed it and then he got the surgery. No GM would have traded for him, contract or no contract. The Houston move was dwarfed by just about every move Isiah has done, besides his drafting.

Hmm.. Layden by all accounts had nothing to do with that trade. Checketts went on the Mike and Madd Dog show and took full credit for that trade. Allan Houston remains the highest paid Knick to date. And as Barkley continuing puts out that he stills makes more money than Kobe Bryant (2nd highest paid player in the NBA after Shaq).

Take Houston off the cap, and we are still well above it by a disgusting amount. He will be off the cap after this season, and we'll be a team with a cap of what, 100 million instead of 125 million? B/c you know perfectly well that Isiah will trade all of the other expiring contracts, as he's yet to let one single one expire. I don't remember the last time the Knicks DID let one expire.

What does it matter to you? Guarantee you, if Houston were still playing, he'd be traded for a bunch of even worse contracts.

It did? Strike short season we luck to finals. Ewing was not a factor that season.

Proved Nellie was right. De-emphasize Ewing and continue to build around him and open up the offense. HE wanted to make Patrick a Power forward which is what patrick played like anyway.

Anyway that was two years after the fact.

SOmetimes it don't work. JVG got his job cuz Ewing in a contract year demanded him. JVG had to be loyal to ewing for orchestrating the promotion. Served Ewing very well.

JOrdan fought the Triangle until he saw the light. And when he did it was wonderful. Jordan did not hand pick Phil Jax.
