I don't know what you guys think.. But I really feel it would be in management's best interest to drop any issue with Spre's hand... Their making this out to be a HUGE thing that could lower his trade value even more... I say let this become a distant memory in other GM's minds so that any future trade is not affected by all this bad publicity againt the player... What do you guys think?

I don't think it's worth all this gnashing of teeth, and it's a huge distraction. He hurt his hand somehow, and didn't realize it was serious. They x-ray him and say "dude, your finger is broken." I agree they should just drop it.

I don't think its a big deal. I think they need to show Sprewell they still value him as much as ever and come to an agreement with him. At the same time, they can quietly shop him for a good point guard and maybe get someone like Payton, Cassell, Terry, or Stoudemire and extras. The potential addition of Nesby or even Walt Williams will help a lot and leave us with some solid talent at SF not including Spree.

I dont think they will give Sprewell more than a verbal beatdown. They probably will throw in a small fine to technically discipline him. I dont think they will get on his case too bad. Because just as you said it would kill his trade value. Look at Van Exels trade value last year after he was beefing with management.

Maybe this is Layden and Chaney's way of getting tough with Spree after last season. They seem to want a more serious atmosphere on the team and I dont blame them. However, they are going about it the wrong way - Spree hurt his hand, didnt know it was broken, end of story. They dont need to have it as front page news in the papers and on ESPN - it is making our team look dreadful.

i totally agree that it's time to get tough on spree... we fans keep stating that he's our "emotional leader", our vocal leader, and the heart and soul of our team. but in all reality, he's a terrible leader and he sets a terrible example for our squad.

a leader does not blow off training camps (in the past). a leader does not show up late to home games and get special treatment. a leader does not shout out his teammates (after toronto knocked us out of the playoffs), rather a leader takes responsibility for the outcome of bad games, and gives as much credit to his teammates as to himself for hard fought victories. also, leaders and team players go to voluntary workouts not just to better their own physical capabilities, but to bond with his fellow players and show support and love to the organization and try to enstate a positive vibe for the upcoming season.

BUT at the same time, the way the knicks organization is handling this situation is totally juvenile and inappropriate. they are making mountains out of mole hills and this negative press does not help to to better spree's trade value, nor does it do any good to alienate one of the better perimeter players on the team. there is no doubt in my mind that spree had an obligation to report his injury even though he may have thought it was just a minor bruise or whatnot. afterall, he's getting 12 million dollars this season... the least he could do is fulfill a clause to simply tell the organization of any injury as soon as it happened. spree should have been more RESPONSIBLE but as his history with the knicks has shown, he's never been that.

I gotta believe that Spree's days are numbered. Not overtly so, but I am almost sure that Scott and company will be pushing any type of trade that returns something of value for Spree.

As a professional athlete, how can you let a broken finger weeks away from training camp go un-diagnosed? This guy is supposed to be a leader?

If you were able to gene-splice the best of Spree and Houston, you'd have our leader (I guess you'd also have Jordan)...

The Knick organization is blowing this situation way out proportion.I think since they did not have a legitimate reseason to trade Sprewell and now they have just got one.The organization was waiting for that mistake,he would put on himself. To make him look bad to his fans. With the help of the media as well.(((NOT)))

One trade I defintely can see happening is sending Spree + Harrington to Chigago for Eddie Robinson & Fizer & change.

I would want a lot of change for Spree + Harrington. Something in the likes of Jamal Crawford.

I never understood, what was ever so great about derrick coleman or his body that would make him the greatest?

what about Karl Malone, etc? all those guys are probably better than DC ever could have been.

DC is always overweight and stuff... please.

we are talking potential here, right? DC could (can?) dribble, post, shoot the three and rebound. If he ever get motivated he would have been great.

Confirmed. Barkely said if I play my best, and another played played his best, I can dominate anyone. He said the only players he never felt that way about are DC and Shariff-Adur-Rahim. But alas, DC only played about 25% of the time.
