this marc stein chat moment is kind of how I feel about some folks on the board at the moment, people need to stop making excuses for Larry and acting like he was anything but a miserable failure:

Brian (pa): Getting to the essence of the Larry Brown/Knicks saga... Didn't he HAVE to make everyone miserbale? Didn't he HAVE to have them lose a ton of games, it was the only way for things to CHANGE.. what good would coaching this team to 35 wins have done?

Marc Stein: (12:54 PM ET ) Huh? So you think it was a good idea for Larry to alienate a bunch of players with hard-to-trade contracts? He was supposed to take a 33-win team to 41-41 or thereabouts. In other words, he was supposed to do what Phil Jackson did with the Lakers. Was that unreasonable? Does Phil have more to work with, in the West, than Larry had with the Knicks?

I would say Kobe/Odom is more to work with than what Larry had, yes.

Larry sucked last year. Bad job. His history shows two things. One is that he's able to turn records around. The other is he's able to have great basketball relationships with players he initially had great dificulty with. Nobody is saying to trade Frye for Tony Battie or Ratliff, but go get Brown a couple of role players he wants and dump some of the mistakes like Mo T and Jalen Rose. If it means buy out or waive then so be it.

Then if your Isiah tell Marbury that the first step in being a leader will be doing exactly what the coach asks on the court and in practice.

Dumping LB is premature, 25+ years of history says so. Nobody's saying he's done a good job. Nobody

I really don't see how winning 8-10 games would have made any difference. He exposed the team for what it was. He exposed IT for bringing in a bunch of loosers. He spoke the truth.

He did what has needed, show the orgnaization up for being such a mess. Now that the dirt is out, its time to clean, not to start covering shiat up again.

okay, I agree.

but there is another part of Brown's history that has been proven again and again over 25 years - he tries to get too much control of the roster and usually gets fired in the process. Happened in Detroit when he tried to get Dumars to trade Billups AFTER the championship. Happened in Indiana. Happened in LAC, NJN and SAS.

I don't know how anyone can deny his "acid reflux" incident was yet another power play now that he's said he "just had the flu."

NEVER. The Knicks are sinking faster than the Titanic, and I am right there holding my breath. Prepared to go down with the ship, willing to take more misery and say can I have some more sir. Fire Brown, Fire Thomas, trade Marbury. I don't care but NEVER.

In abou five to six years, things will start turning around. I love the Knicks and will not be a Brooklyn Nets fan, but I will turn off the "pride" version of me that cares so much if they win or lose, because with this team, there is no pride and I'm not going to put any ounce of energy into the team until I see that there's pride, heart and deteriminated players. I am a Knick fan, but a passive one. You all should be one too.

Hell no. I don't care that they'll be in NY. It's a Yankees vs. Mets thing, you pick one, and I've made my choice.

I don't want to know someone who would become a Net fan after a season like this. This is where true fans shine, I'm sorry but it is true. I respect Billy Crystal when he was there by himself talking with Sterling at those games, and everyone was Lakerphucking. A true fan. Now I look at the Clipper/Suns game and I get sick, looking at those fakes.

I will still be a Knicks fan, but I dont really think this is the best move for the franchise. Too much change at the coaching position has definitely hurt this team almost as much as roster turnover and poor chemistry. Its a mixture of many different things as you all know - and this would only add more fuel to the bonfire the knicks franchise is burning up in.

You guys are an unreal bunch of bitches. I can't believe it, from the ****ing site owner no less. What a bunch of bitches you all are. Over Larry Brown. This is what we talking about....Larry Brown? LOL!

Switching teams because of LB going is just the most ridiculous thing ever. It would be equivalent to me switching if Steph was traded. I would never even think of it. You guys are not fans. This guy is a coach who was here for 1 year and did a miserable job, the worst in professional sports history by some accounts.

Who needs fans like you guys anyways? Scram you ****ing panzies!

Personally I don't want Dolan to fire Brown, I can understand why he is so tempted. Make Brown earned every single penny. I seen this act from Larry 'I take the dough and go' Brown. You now have these silly reports that saying Thomas was supporting the players meanwhile even Brown admits to both Thomas and Dolan talking to players about how they support Brown and they should listen to Brown. Did Brown appreciate that, did he say wow my GM and owner supports me to these high paid players. No, just the opposite, he makes comments like he doesn't like that. I guess he felt they somehow undermined his power.

my daugher will be a brooklyn nets fan (my way of being a closet fan, much like I am a closet met fan).

The knicks haven't won in 35 years...this won't make me switch...I mean, when lenny wilkens got the boot with a faaaaar better record and faaaar less talent than the great larry brown, nobody shed a tear (there definitely wasn't a post asking if we would become nets fans).

Why the blind love for larry? I just don't know, but historically, he's know as a) a choker and b) being able to sell water as wine.

But the detroit championship was "hand picked". He stole that job on the sly and rode it to a title. their record before and after is a testament to this.

So, no, I will not be a brooklyn nets fan if this whole "larry" thing goes down, but I will be a brooklyn nets fan because they play in brooklyn.
all kool aid all the time.
