haven't seen too much of Dallas this year but Diop seems to play with fire and is a defensive center. Not that he is stopping Duncan, but he sure is making him work every single second he is out there.

Diop lost weight and got serious.

Isiah had the answer in Butler all along.

Didn't Diop choose the Mavs over the Knicks. He said he came down to the Knicks and the Mavs but he wanted to play for a contending team. Diop had to get out of Cleveland. He was a failure there, can't fault Ferry for not resigning him. Sometimes players have to move on for both team and player's sake.

No doubt that Diop chose the Mavs over Knicks and most any other team in part beacuse of playing time and the Cuban effect. Signing Z with the Cavs probably had a significant effect on Diop not signing with them too.

Sometimes the role of owner and GM is to create an environment where players WANT to come to your team. Riles probably had that going for him and the Knicks back in the day. Dallas and Spurs and probably Detroit have it now. The Knicks have lost the mojo and probabaly can't begin to think about it for another 5-7 years.

True, I think when Isiah first arrived in NY, you had FA interested but the Knicks didn't have any cap room. Now you have a losing attitude, a team in flux, a coach that based on polls that many young players want no part of.

Diop would've signed here, NY had no more of the MLE because Jerome James ate it all.

Isiah Thomas missed out on dinner
Get more: Free Agency, Mark Cuban, New York Knicks
After yesterday's confession of a few bad moves, it's surprising to see that Mavs owner Mark Cuban is signing Desagana Diop to a three year deal, or so states his agent, Leon Rose.

While Cleveland fans are rejoicing to be rid of him, the Knicks apparently were after him, as well. We're seriously distraught about seeing Lasagna Flop in Dallas. First, to reiterate, we never want anything bad to ever happen to Mark Cuban and this is frankly a bad signing, even at only $1.9M per. Secondly, we can only imagine how Larry Brown would've dealt with a center rotation of Jerome James and Diop, he of the ill-advised 15-foot jumpshot, generously time-efficient fouls, and a perpetually spaced-out look on his face. Diop in NY would only have brought on the inevitable LB-Isiah meltdown that much sooner. We all know it'll happen by December or so, but to get it in training camp would've been a real neat way to start off the season.

isiah targetted jerome james during the playoffs last year and got a committment from him before july 1st rolled around.

we didn't have a center...but he targetted a 29 year old player who had a good 1 1/2 weeks vs. a guy with a broken leg. and wanted him for 5 years at the full MLE. and he wanted him right away.

that reeks and still reeks of desperation.

which leads me to believe he had no idea what he was going to do after he moved nazr.

well... we NEEDED a center. I'm sorry but to me that signing dispelled any shred of evidence that Isiah might have so much as a clue about what he's doing. That was the nail. If you want to sell me that Vin Baker was a handshake deal because he and Crawford had the same agent whatever, but JJ just proves that ISiah is the dumbest GM in the NBA.

I wanted Diop and/or Steven Hunter.

so not only paying about $20 mil over market value was enough for jamal (and taking back jerome) but we had to give vin $8 mil as well...

who the fcuk operates like that? dude is just throwing money around with no ramifications. we are in trouble.

i didn't want any 1 of them... would've rather saved the MLE & just played Jackie B those minutes from the very beginning, but what do i know? i'm an overreactor.

I wanted Diop but for the league minimum. I thought he had alot to prove. I had anticipated that the 5 spot would be bad for a number of years but this hasn't change since 2001.
