Makes you appreciate the blood, sweat and tears he went through, carrying teams on his back. The Knicks were Patrick Ewing's team for many years, and you see the state of today, and there's no one that can even be compared to Patrick Ewing. He was one of a kind and it was sad that he never had that really great role player. Patrick, thank you for all of the great years, even though we didn't win a championship, you still are a true warrior and champion in my eyes.

Indeed. But he was hated and bashed mercilessly while he was here. But ring or no ring, the guy was a champion to me.

And it was unfair too. Sure, he was not Jordan, but Ewing never had a Scottie Pippen to get his back.

Then Ewing's best year was not as good as Olajuwan's.

The cards just never fell right for Ewing to win it all. C'est La Vie, it happend to Barkley, Stockton and Malone, and it would have happened to Clyde but he was smart enough to get on the "O-train" and get himself a ring.

I begin to wonder if we will ever have a player like him again: you knew most nights we had the biggest, best, and most dominant player on the court.

He spoiled us.

I never took Ewing for granted, I loved the guy. One guy I'm starting to realize I somewhat took for granted was Oakley. That man was a warrior.

crzymdups, he was a thug. That's why he was a warrior. Charles Oakley was the type of player who would shoot you if he had a gun and you rubbed him the wrong way...I could be wrong, but Charles didn't take no ****.

Was just watching game 7 of the 1994 Eastern Conference Finals, forgot how dominating Ewing was in that game. Had over 20 points, over 20 rebounds, 6 blocks, and like 7 assists. I miss that Knicks team a lot.

I think Oakley had a lot of similarities with Ben Wallace. Ben's a better athlete, particularly lateral quickness (which leads to more blocked shots), but they had a similar attitude and toughness.

Oak was more skilled. He was banging 20 footers ala Kurt Thomas towards the end of his career. I can never imagine Ben doing anything other than dunking. In fact, Ben probably should have been a defensive end.

a little of both. i loved mike and thought he could've been a nice post up player for us. but i know he's nothing more than a role player until he takes his conditioning seriously.

I wanted him to be perfect. That finger roll in Indiana? The fact he was hurt in both Finals appearances? Fact he fell in love with the jumpshot too much? I was just spoiled. Never in my wildest dreams did I think the Knicks would turn out the way they are now. I believe I appreiciate the Big Fella more now that he is gone. I'd hug the guy and kiss him on the mouth if I saw him now!!!!

The loss in Houston was just a little too much to take. Losing to Michael for 6 years - okay, somewhere in the back of your mind you could almost make room for that. But then to have the 2nd-ratedness driven home like that and indelibly stamped on our souls?!?!?! OUCH!

Key word is soul, Marv.....Ewing touched us that deeply.

If Ewing ever was in trouble with money or something crazy and needed a place to stay......the couch is his as long as he needs it. I'm sure everyone in NY feels that way, lol

Its a thin line, between love and hate............

THere were similar traits that both loved and hated.

Loved he would play hurt, but would not tell all how bad. Thus the deeper we went in the playoffs the less effective he would be.

I loved he wanted to be the man, but hated it when his skills started to diminish.

Loved did not want to reduce his roll in 96' during his contract year, but then held the team hostage and had Nellie extrodited.

Loved he developed into an offensive juggernut from college but diminished his defense and rebounding.

LOved he did not want to relent his role, but could have been a defensive stopper for us and played out his contract instead of floundering in Orlando and Seattle..

I wonder how many people feel the same way about Stephon Marbury? Its a job for Stephon just like it was a job for Ewing and they both got compensated very well for doing their job. Same about Allan Houston and Stephon Marbury. Both are kind of overpaid, Houston more than Marbury but they are/were both leaders on losing teams. I hated the way Houston was on the floor but thought he was just straight up dude. I wonder how the current leader on this team stacks up against Ewing/Starks/Houston/Oakley etc.
