This exerpt of the Mitch L Daily news says it all.
Van Exel said... "He always starts out slow."

Just what the Knicks need. Allan Houston usually answers the bell around January - except for last season, when he never heard it go off. Now they've got another guy just like him?

And with Spree, our energy guy, out for the first month of the season it looks like a slow start for the Knicks is in order...although Houston always seems to play better when Spree is not in the lineup.

HOuston did start slow last year. After JVG left he averaged 23ppg a game, before he left he only averaged 15ppg.

Dyess will take time to get used to everybody. I think Dyess will do better if hes "the man". If McDyess has to play a role it may take some time before he gets comfortable.

Yeah...I don't remember Allan starting fast....22, 15, 5, 17, 14, 17, 17, 23, 17 and 11 points in his first 10 games.

I'm not disputing the fact that he started slow, the person who Andrew quoted said he never started at all, which isn't true becuase he wound up having his highest scoring average of his career.

Just a sidenote, if Houston averaged 23 ppg with Chaney last year, will have McDyess this year and will be the first option for the team since Spree is out for the first few weeks, can we expect a big year (24-26 ppg) from Houston this year? I think it's a possibility.

And, I still believe when Houston is on top of his game, he's one of the top 5 SG's in the league. Just looking at last years numbers, where he wasn't the #1 option on offense for a part of the time, he put streaks of games together, and I can remeber one where he was unstoppable.

I found the stats, he had games of 23-21-25-16-34-28-17-19-20-22-28-12-44-28-25. Later in the year he put together 27-28-40-32, and then before he got injured he had three nice games of 28-20-26. With Houston as the first option on the wing, I think he could explode, especially with McDyess down low.

I know it we are lacking at 2 positions, but the thought of spree, dyess, and houston on the floor at once is pretty awesome. I think all 3 will have great years.

I think if the Knicks get Stoudamire and get rid of Spree for a bad contract and a pick I think Knicks would be in great shape. You may wonder what I mean by great shape. I mean McDyess will be a MVP canidate and Knicks would finidh no lower than 3rd in the east.
