I'll bet they were still pretty good basketball players even by today's standards (You ever played against some old bastard who drilled hook shot after hook shot?), and I bet they were definitely among the best in America back then, though I understand that the Globetrotters were considered to have THE BEST players.

I just can't imagine them beating guys like The Doctor, Jordan, Shaq, Duncan, Kareem and all the rest. They remind me of the 'Beastie Boys' in one of they're music video's when they played as old men playing against little kids. By the way, the Globetrotters (few know this) started in Chicago and not Harlem and used to be great 'showmen'.
