marbury at the time, was 26, putting up 20/8, and entering his prime. the end cost was two younger prospects (2nd round or borderline 2nd round picks) in milos + lampe along with 2 #1's. eddy curry is 23, put up 16/5, and is coming off a career threatening heart ailment and had a history of motivation issues. the end cost was a nice young player (sweetney), 2 #1's, and 2 #2's. so at the end of the day, it looks like we actually paid more for HIGH risk potential in curry than a proven player with off court issues. so which deal was better?

IMO Marbury deal at the time was a good deal for us to make. Worth the gamble. Of course what downgrades it signficantly is that Isiah the Impaler had to turn Penny's expiring deal into Stevie Ray Loser.

The Marbury deal was great at the time. You would think that coming home to NY and giving Steph another chance would get his head on straight but it never did. The Knicks really didn't give up all that much with the trade, this trade was something both parties needed. Steph needed NY and Dolan needed a new star to market, preferably one from NYC.

Steph so far. He has contributed more and what we ended up giving (which many here cried about like a bunch of school girls) is nothing. Lampe, Vujanic, and whoever the hell else he isn't even cracking a rotation anywhere in a AAU tourney.

initial shock wave of starbury in new york was very promising. we knew getting curry was risky and is acknowledged as the missing piece at the 5 spot.

maybe we didnt give larry brown enough time to make these pieces fit....jury is still out

the one thing i will say about the steph deal, with the picks involved, and with isiah's acumen for drafting, he probably would've found something worthwhile with those picks. considering in 2004, we would've been a lottery team - we had a shot at ai2, deng, and josh smith. and with the way things turned out, that probably was a better route to choose, but that's all hindsight.

Marbury gets a lot of criticism that he doesnt deserve. Like most on this thread, I agree that the Marbury trade was a no-brainer! We had to do it. Marbury is a good talent and a good PG. What he isnt is a good leader. He cannot be the best player on your team if you want to win a championship. I liked the Marbury trade but unfortunately has not worked out for us.

Yeah, thats like oppurtunity cost. Zeke definitely is a good drafter and we definitely would have been a lottery team without him, it would be interesting to note who he would have picked.
