objective: get under the cap in the summer of 2008

  • trade #1: marbury for jwill and posey
why? for miami it's a no brainer. for us, jwill expires after the 07 season. posey will decline his option this summer so he s&t's for 2 years $15 mil.

  • trade #2: francis + denver #1 for eddie jones
why? memphis was interested in francis at the deadline and he gives them a scoring punch. for us, eddie expires next season

  • trade #3: jalen + spurs #1 for webber + philly #1 (top 2 protected)
why? philly will save over $20 mil and will be under the cap in 2007. for us, stop gap PF but more importantly, a lotto pick in 2007

conclusion: these 3 moves put us at a cap # of about $40 mil in the summer of 2008 with a roster of the following:
jamal, quentin, nate, lee, frye, curry, jackie, 07 philly #1, 07 ny #1

It's an interesting concept and even more interesting about something like that is 'it's so simple'. We probably won't do it, but who knows what's going to happen. But then, it's only a money game, isn't it!

my point which i did mentioned last yr was to get under the cap.. PUrpose: GEt LEbron JAmes!!! Hee will be the best player in a couple of yrs.. it would've been nice if he wore a Knicks uniform...

Unfortunately, the sitution they're in now, it would be tough to accomplish..

big game would still be on the cap (if he's here or we buy him out) and we'd still be under the cap.

I like you plan a lot, not because it puts us under the cap but mainly cause we are getting decent players and trading away players that havent worked out. One thing though, we really need to get more for Stephon than just Jwill and Posey. Maybe some more cap space and a draft pick.

I've given up on hoping Dolan agrees to get under the cap. It would really be nice but its never going to happen for as long as dolan is the owner

might not be a problem. We have the assets. Isiah has a lot more ammo this summer to make good moves. I really hope he can make something out of it. I like the guy and still have some faith in him. Lets hope he follows a plan. He needs to give up on his blind loyalty to Stephon and get blindly loyal to the New York Knicks.

I doubt it. Just the fact that we added Jalen & Francis when we could've started the getting under the cap process then is enough to convince me that we will never be under the cap. Isiah added all of these guys, traded for mo taylor and gave Jerome James 5yrs. We are never getting under the cap even is Isiah is fired I think

rv i'd pass. Reason being, he's likely to go after max money. I don't want to even think about giving anyone max money unless I think he's the cornerstone to a championship team. I don;t think Melo is ever going to be close to that description.

hmmm. I really value the ability to win the NCAA championship as a freshman on a team with a history of choking playing for a coach with a history of choking, especially when the team chokes after he leaves.

He's basically willing the Nuggets to wins...and yes, he is making his teammates better.

Mello is the answer to all of our problems. And he's not only young, he's a very very good young.

I'd be willing to give up Frye for Melo.

[edit - because we have Curry and Jackie B]

rv, pleeeeeeeeeeease stop digging your own grave with nonsense. For arguements sake, lets say we did get under the cap by his RFA year, which we wont. The key letter is R, meaning restricted. No shot in hell does Denver not match any offer. They are building the team around him right now, and all they really need is a couple of shooters, and that team will be contending for a championship. Why would Denver give all that up? What if it's a sign and trade? What are we going to give up to get him? We would have to give so much, that we would be screwing ourselves in the end, AGAIN. The day we get Melo, or LeBron, or Bosh or Wade or Dwight or Emeka is the day that they are old men who had microfracture knee surgery 3 times and have been to jail for fighting pit bulls and selling weed in airport parking lots. Those are the types of guys Isiah likes in particular.

I didn't read that post, but same case, even more extreme. If Cleveland doesn't match any offer, they are back to being duds of the east, right next to the New York Knicks. And yes I did mention that we have no shot in hell at grabbing LeBron, when I said.. "The day we get Melo, or LeBron, or Bosh or Wade or Dwight or Emeka is the day that they are old men who had microfracture knee surgery 3 times and have been to jail for fighting pit bulls and selling weed in airport parking lots. This is dead-on (except we know Isiah likes 'young and athletic', it's Brown who goes for the geriatrics). Superstars almost never are available as free agents. Their own teams can either match offer sheets or if they're unrestricted offer more $ for more years. Nash was incredible luck for Phoenix -- Dallas decided to let him go. This hardly ever happens with all-NBA level players, which is why cap space is way overrated.

Yeah, but when they are, do we have the money to offer them is what this whole getting under the cap thing is all about.
I'll never trust this' team again.
