Don Chaney is planning on using a faster paced offense. I think this is an excellent idea with Sprewell, Houston, McDyess, and Thomas all being athletic. only problem is i don't know how well Ward and Eisley will be able to run a fast paced offense. I'm hoping either Howard Eisley plays like he did in Dallas and Utah and starts or New York grabs one of the remaining solid free agent point guards. It seems the Knicks still have interest in Rod Strickland and he would definitely be an upgrade. He had a solid season with Miami last year starting almost every game and averaging over 10 points, 6 assists, 3 rebounds, and 1 steal in 30 minutes. He's very durable and could give the Knicks a good season or two with any luck.

McDyess has had excellent workouts and looks to be the best power forward in the east. He will put up over 20 and 10 this year and should open up things for Sprewell and Houston who can hopefully co-exist.

Clarence Weatherspoon is apparently in great shape compared to last season and should put up good numbers off the bench if he stays healthy. Harrington has also been impressive, but his rebounding liabilities will likely make him the odd man out in the Knicks 8-9 man rotation.

Lastly, my plan for New York would be to sign Strickland and then make the much rumored deal of Ward and Knight for Fortson and Mills. That way you're upgrading the starting point guard position and making the bench a heck of a lot better by adding a potential 6th man of the year.

C Thomas, Doleac, Harrington
PF McDyess, Fortson, Weatherspoon,
SF Sprewell, Mills
SG Houston, Anderson
PG Strickland, Williams/Eisley.

Thoughts or Ideas?

Where would Fortson fit in? I like that team a lot, though.

Sorry i forgot to put his name in, but he's been added to the mix now. I think the only problem with this roster is it's going to be too deep. Fortson will see major minutes behind Thomas and McDyess and would likely contend for 6th man of the year. Weatherspoon and Harrington wouldn't see much time in this case, so another trade would likely have to be made to unload one or both. It's a very talented team though and could be one of the best in the east hands down.

Then your one big problem is you don't read.

Here's what the team could've been, according to reports in the papers:
Trade 1: Spree for Big Dog and Ervin Johnson
Trade 2: Ward, Knight, Harrington for Stoudamire

Lineup:
C-Johnson
PF-McDyess
SF-Big Dog
SG-Houston
PG-Stoudamire
6th Man-Thomas
Anderson, Eisley/Williams, Weatherspoon, Mills, Harrington, Doleac, Postell off the bench.

I think that's a better running/scoring team then the current one, and much taller.

First of all, Williams is still coming off an injury and is completely unproven against NBA players so I wouldnt place him as a starter just yet. He could still show up and be a complete bust. Second of all, none of these trades happened - and some were just rumored so it doesnt even matter. We know what our team looks like in reality and that is all that should matter.

I agree with OasisBU. The Big Dog trade would give us true center, and a true SF. There's no way the Bucks would do this deal. This is more Summer-time rumors to keep the fans interested, and to keep reporters employed.
