right now, the cap figure for 07/08 is about $74 mil. if we're able to move steph + francis ($36 mil) for deals that expire next year, the cap # in 07/08 would be $38 mil.

move #1
steve francis + #1 to memphis for eddie jones

why? memphis has a big player in gasol. they have some nice roles players and a 6th man. they need a scorer in the backcourt. 8 trips and 1st round exits...they need another guy.

move #2
marbury + nate to atlanta
harrington in a s&t to orlando
grant hill + atl protected #1 to ny

why? atlanta needs a pg. they need to sell tickets. marbury + nate fits both needs. orlando is a young team with dwight, darko, jameer, hedo and battie. harrington would fit the mold and hedo could be a 6th man.

u really think ATL is going to give up a protected #1 & Al Harrington to get Stephon Marbury & Nate? i don't see them doing it personally.

i love the Francis trade idea tho.

Atlanta will not give up Harrington and their #1 protected pick.. No way!!!

If it were the other way around with the knicks giving up a free -agent and #1 pick, that i can see..

Trade #1 is ingenious if we could do it. Its really really great, and EJ could give us 20 good minutes a game too. Memphis could clearly use him, they need the scorer badly.

No offense, but when all of a sudden did Eddie Jones become worth Francis AND a pick? He may be worth just a pick or a player in a package for Francis, but I believe that is overpaying for him a bit.

Francis' value is not exactly high right now and he makes like 15 million! We are trying to appease them to take on his huge salary.

from the standpoint of getting rid of Francis' contract, i think it's a good trade idea... that late 1st rounder won't amount to anything considering the roster & rotation issues this team already has... & you can always trade Eddie Jones' contract at the Allstar break if a player that can help this team becomes available... or simply let him & Jalen come off the books at the end of the season & get $30 mil in cap relief.
