I left this on another board.

The Knicks trade Kurt Thomas the rights to Milos Vujanic a number 1 draft pick protected to 10 in 2004 5 in 2005 3 in 2006 and unprotected in 2007 and a 2nd draft pick in 2003 and 2008

for the rights to C Jeff Foster and SF Jonathon Bender of the Indiana Pacers.

Knicks lineup 10 man rotation

Foster 6-11 250
Mcdyess 6-9 245
Bender 7-0 205
Houston 6-6 200
Williams 6-3 215
6th man Sprewell 6-5 190
Spoon 6-7 260
Ward 6-2 190
Doleac 6-11 260
Andersen 6-6 200

Im giving up a lot in terms of prospects picks and a tough veteran player who will make the playoff rotation for the Pacers and adds another dimension of toughness to the team that it needs. But I get back a true center and a 21 year old player who can start off the game for us and have Sprewell come in mid first q to provide balance between bench and starters.

Besides thomas Im giving the Pacers three draft picks 1 1 and 2 2s + the rights to a player that they can stick right into their PU PG next year. The Knicks are in a position of weakness--we are very very small --in order to make a swap I looked for a team that underutilized good players because of depth[those 2 are also FA next year] but the players make sense to the Knicks lineup. You have to give to get and teh Knicks arenot in the best of bargaining positions theyll have to really sweeten the pot.

It's going to be an expensive proposition to bring in a quality center. Foster is an active skilled 6-11 250 ready to breakout. Jonathon Bender is a 7-0 205 small forward that has all the skills you would want and has come on y-y. Those two guys arent going to be had for didley---to get you have to give and in the Knicks position you have to go the extra mile. The package I offered was did not touch the core players. It involved 1 1st round most likely to be in th teens 2 2nd rounders spread out-- Kurt Thomas and a PG that wil take 2-3 years to develop in the nBA. Remember Bender and foster are high 1s who are developing you arent getting them for 0.

I follow you on your trade BRIGGS.

I agree with the fact that you have to give to get, and those 2 players, even if the cost seems to be high, would solve most of our problems.

To guys outthere thinks about this :
we get our center
we get a taller sf
we bench spree and we get one of the best bench of the league

Thomas had a breakout year. we have to trade him since his value has peaked. He won't ever be better than that, at least in NY.

Do youthink he'll post career numbers with far less touches this year ? explain me how, i guess i need it.

For once, I 100% agree with you briggs

Id give Kurt + Vujanic but I would not give ANY picks. You are talking about giving 2 or 3 picks u must be smoking some serious uncut crack.

Foster is their backup.

How about this:

Kurt + Spoon + rights to Vujanic + cash
for
Croshere + Foster + Bender

Are you kidding me? We have given away draft picks for MUCH MUCH less. We are not talking chop liver here. Jeff Foster --well he's not the second coming of Patrick but he is 6-11 250 he runs the floor exceptionally well--plays tough and long inside and I believe if given 35-38 mts would improve his averages out to the 12-1313 range while being a perfect compliment player to Dice. He plays hard and once he becomes a free agent --he is going to command a full exemption at a minimum they way centers are at a premium. John Bender is /was a 5 pick. He hasnt exploded[yet] but I see him as a pseudo Camby type[remember he is 21] and he can handle and shoot it from the perimeter at 7 feet tall as well as take it to the basket and dunk. he wil continue to take need seasononing while his body and game develop--but he can play and play effectively for 20-25 mts a night. He is also a guy who has the skil level to break WAY out and put up some some scary numbers some games and would be a perfect replacement for Spree[he would be 24-25 when sprees contract ran dry]

But to get you are going to have to give. I mean we used FIRST ROUND PICKS on the likes of erick strickland a throw in to acquire mark Jackson and well we havent been the best at making picks anyway--to throw in a duplicate 2 in 2003 we have 2 and 1 that essentialy will be in the teens and a second 2 4 years from now that is not a high price for two STRATERS that could change the face of th team for years.

Foster isnt going to change the game. hes solid but never will make an all-star team. The main part of the trade is Bender. Bender hasnt showed any emotion, fire, or determination. Thats why I wouldnt give a pick. id give Vujanic because hes unproven and you cant miss what you dont have. I rather have Odom than Bender but I will take Bender if he comes for cheap.

Anyone seen Vujanic play in the World Championships? It would be dumb to trade him!

Vujanic did not impress me. Plushe will have to change his style to play in the NBA. I think Vujanic is great trade bait now but we must package him and get something really special in return. Vujanic isnt a guarenteed NBA sucess. Id trade him if the deal is right.
