Harrington May Be Too Expensive
22nd April, 2006 - 8:43 pm

Atlanta Journal-Constitution - Al Harrington is still saying the right things about the Hawks even though the season is over, and the Hawks maintain the want their talented forward to return, but the Atlanta Journal-Constitution believes that Harrington may just be too expensive.

With Harrington, AJC reports, you're talking about a deal in the five-year, $50 million range, for starters.

"Right now, I really don't even know what to say about it," said Harrington, whose summer recruiting visits won't start for months but will no doubt include the aforementioned cities. "You realize the gravity of your situation once the season ends. It's one thing to talk about it. But to be on the brink of what could be your biggest summer ... it all hits home then.

"And now, it's really in the hands of my agent [New York-based Andy Miller] and the Hawks, to see how the details get worked out."

Knight said the Hawks' feelings about Harrington haven't changed a bit since they traded for him two summers ago, when he was coming off a breakout season in Indiana.

"We like Al and we'd like to keep him," Knight said. "We're very happy with him and what he's brought not only to our team but to our franchise. He's been the consummate pro. Al's been great for the two years he's been here and we'd like it to continue in the future."

In a sign and trade for Jerome James, or Q1 I'd do it.

Man I really don't know about Al Harrington. He is a nice player but I just don't know about him. He is like a poor mans carmelo Anthony to me. Larry brown doesn't like carmelo at all because of the whole Detroit pick and the Olympics. So I just don't think it could work.

Now I have seen Harrington drop 40pts twice. The guy can really be dominant if he can get rolling. he'd look aight between frye and curry especially in the rebounding. He could take pressure off a lot of people offensively.

I just got bad vibes man. I've said this the last time we talked about this.

I'd rather get Kenyon Martin than overpay Al Harrington.

Have you taken a looksy at Kmarts contract?
He averages like 13 mil for 5 more years and he's already broken!!! Are you serious?

5 years & $50 million is NOT overpaying for a young talented player just on the cusp of becoming an Allstar like Al Harrington... for God's sake, we're paying Jerome James $30 mil over 5 years to be a bench decoration!
After 7 years & 40K+ posts, banned by martin for calling Nalod a 'moron'. Awesome.

i agree with what everybody is saying about kmart...but one thing is that his contract IS insured. which means if he can't play anymore b/c of his knees, insurance will pick up the majority of it...but the more important thing is that it will come off the cap a year after he medically retires. that's a decent "worst case scenario" plan. if we do trade for him, it will be for francis, but we should also try to get a pick in return.

Please, no to HArrington.. We got too many offensive players as it is.. We don't need no more..

We need role players on this team that don't necessarily need the ball in order to dominate.

Harrington at 6'9 isn't a good rebounder and needs the ball almost all the time..

He's not worth acquiring so i would rather work with Frye and Lee..

The Future. GO KNICKS!
