Larry said he's definitely coming back!! Steph along with himself had a long talk.
Mike and Maddog ask him did he know what he was getting into before he accepted the job??? He said he knew the roster was flawed and needed lots of work.
Larry also said, he blames himself and take full responibility for the 23 -59 record.. He's not happy but willing to make changes for the better.
Mike and maddog said after going through this mess all yr, being cautious of his health and having some players disrespecting him, why would you come back to this again??
Larry said coaching basketball is what it's all about to him and he accepts the situation as a challenge and willing to make things better and knows it will get better..
Mike and maddog ask LArry, can he and Isiah co-exist?? Larry said if he didn't think they could, he wouldn't have taken the job..
Larry also said making all the money in the world by coaching won't make you to happy if your record falls to 23 -59
He also told mike and the madddog, everyday he speaks to the media. Around 8 of them surrounds his face so whatever he tells them, all 8 has a way of twisting their stories differently.. He said he'll be cautious talking to the media in regards to his players.
HE also told mike and maddog, the owner is giving him another chance after a dismal season.. Usually in sports, you end up with a 23 -59 record, a person would've been fired by now but he's committed to making them better.
Mike and maddog ask Larry what are you looking to do in the offseason to improve this team??
Larry said the team holds some attractive assets, they got 2 1st round draft picks and the young players such as lee, frye and robinson will get better.
Mike and madddog ask larry what was up with the different rotation all the time??
LArry said right before the season, some of the players were traded and the team had to adjust.
He said when Curry arrived; he hadn't played a game since last march so he was completely out of b-ball shape. Also, several injuries occurred right before training camp ands whenever he had a lineup, he ended up uncomfortable with it..
Another question from Mike and the madddog.. DO you think Curry was worth giving up your unprotected 1st round draft pick?? LArry said yes!
He thinks Curry will be better than any 1st rounders of this yr's draft. LArry also said Curry might be the best athletic big men he's ever coached.. Personally, i was like what about David Robinson??
He said he expects big men to defend and rebound but usually it takes bigger guys time to developed.. He has faith in Curry and know he will only get better...
One thing LArry also said that surprised me was Curry's age.. He said Curry is 6'11, 280 pd 22 year old.. He said Curry is not 23 like the papers said he is..
Larry said this is it.. He wants to retire as a knicks coach with the goal of winning a championship..
Hopefully when it becomes available, we can hear the whole conservation again between larry and mike/maddog. I was happy to hear what Larry had to say..
It didn't sound like he was bullsh#**ing on the radio..
It felt like he was speaking from the heart but with the cap situation, a pathetic owner, airheaded g.m/pres and at age 65 with a health problem, i dont know if it would be worth giving it a shot next season.
The Future. GO KNICKS!
