Sir Charles agrees: Knicks are a mess

Charles Barkley gleefully has been razzing the Knicks for months, but hours before their season ended last night, the TNT analyst fired one last series of verbal salvos. Asked on a conference call previewing the NBA playoffs what he would do if he were Knicks owner James Dolan, he said, "The first thing I'd do is kill myself."

Barkley went on to say, "I've been associated with the NBA for 20 years and I've never seen a situation that bad before . . . I don't know what the hell they are going to do. They have players who make a ton of money who nobody wants."

After Barkley said the Knicks hadn't "made a trade in the last probably two or three years that made any sense," fellow analyst Reggie Miller said he liked the Eddy Curry trade. To which Barkley said, "You can say [Curry] has a big body. So do I, and I can't play."

What about guards Stephon Marbury and Steve Francis?

"They ain't never going to be able to play together - never," Barkley said. "If I'm another GM in the league I would not trade for those guys."

Barkley disputed the notion New York fans will not put up with a rebuilding effort.

"Trust me, those people in New York would rather rebuild and have a bright future instead of taking on all those crappy contracts and still stinking."

this really had to be said. if its rebuilding vs competing, maybe its a toss up. if its rebuilding vs just plain being terrible, we knicks fans aren't that irrational.

You can rebuild in this city, New Yorkers want hard work and ****ing passion if the teams young and they do the little things we can take paying for overpriced seats just as long as there is hope, which their would be without the ******* in the front office, that has effectively added three guards and a center that no one is trading for....

I remember waaaaaay earlier in the season, like in November, Charles said that the Knicks were getting better. Boy that seems like 8 years ago. I sure miss the days when we had some semi tough guys, and his only problem with us, was that we had no tough guys. Now we have nothing.

Yeah, Barkley was one guy who thought that the Knicks made all the right moves, love getting Isiah Thomas, Larry Brown. Hindsight is 20/20 and funny when its not your team or job on the line.
