Stackhouse is about to be traded for rich hamilton but someone reported the salaries dont match. The pistons are throwing in a center...do you think the knicks could somehow be involved in this? maybe we take back laettner and someone else for fillers?

Why are the Pistons mixing it up? They had a weak PG position last year, upgraded in the offseason, and now they're trading their best player. Stack is a 20-5-5 guy, and he showed he was the leader of that team last year. If MJ can pull this off, I don't know what I'll do.

By the way, this probably puts the Wiz ahead of the Knicks with a lineup of:
Larry Hughes, Jerry Stackhouse, Michael Jordan, Popeye Jones (if re-signed), and Brendan Haywood, with Russel off the bench. If Kwame devlops into any kind of player, this team will be really dangerous.

But at the same time I think it puts the Pistons behind the Knicks. Stackhouse turned into a real team player and carried this team. Rip Hamilton is good, but not that good. And their team relied a lot on chemistry, which will be totally flipped this year. The Wizards do scar me, with a lineup of:
PG: Hughes (even though he cant play the point)
SG: Stack
SF: Jeffries
PF: Brown
C: White
with MJ and Laettner off the bench

I dont know what the hell dumars was thinking. I understand that he wanted to trade stack because he wasnt going to give him max $, but they could have atleast gotten something better.
ya cant stop me, you can only hope to contain me

Dumars is a fairly good evaluator of talent, maybe Rip will become a premier player. Playing with MJ helped him average 20 ppg, but now he'll be THE offense in Detroit.

Don't forget, Dumars found Ben Wallace, turned Big Nasty into 6th Man of the Year, and signed Chucky Atkins from nowhere and turned him into a pretty good PG. But I still think they could've gotten more, at least a few picks.

dude...he didnt find Chucky Atkins and Ben Wallace. Both those guys came in the Grant Hill trade. Detroit was rebuilding and Dumars got two of the best role players in th NBA.

One thing this trade tells you is once again NOBODY saw it coming. My only point is the silence from the Knick camp means Layden may still be working the phones hard

I knew Wallace was in the trade, didn't know Atkins was. He obviously knew what he was doing if he traded a runner in the league MVP race for players nobody else wanted, players that turned out to be very influential in the teams playoff run.

And I agree with you mike, I am positive that Layden is still working the lines. I wish there was some TV special on what GMs do all day, I'm dying to find out, but if they just sit around and call up their pals and talk about trades, well, they've got it made.

on what planet would MJ come off the bench. He would rather retire.

A few picks? Picks are gold man, GM's don't throught them arround carelessly. They could have gotten "A" pick. Singular. Not a few picks.

doesnt scare me at all. The only good thing about their team is you can have Dixon, Stack and MJ on the floor for the last 2 minutes and thats 3 guys who can kill you with a big shot. Besides that their frontcourt is terrible, I mean really terrible. Dixon, Jefferies and Brown may be good players but its a long ways away from being a real nuecleus.

"on what planet would MJ come off the bench. He would rather retire."

I believe that'd be planet Earth. Jordan has said he might take a limited role in the team (probably as a 6th man) because he isn't 23 anymore, he's 39 and as a starter last year he proved he coudln't handle a whole season.

"A few picks? Picks are gold man, GM's don't throught them arround carelessly. They could have gotten "A" pick. Singular. Not a few picks."-Ok, so they should've gotten "A" pick then. To give up a proven All-Star and get Rip Hamilton, who blossomed because defenses were focusing on the greatest player of our time doesn't mean they couldn't get a pick, some picks, future picks, any type of picks. They should've gotten more.

True, but just because the Knicks can't seem to draft to save their lives, or the fact that they seem to give up picks faster than Kerry Collins, doesn't mean picks aren't "gold".
