A previous post said that it was unlikely that we'd re-sign these guys?

What's the likelihood we lose these guys? I imagine a guy like Butler (b/c he plays Center & has no marks on his reputation) could easily command a low level exception offer from other teams. Not sure if the perception of Woods has changed to the extent that he'd get a low level offer elsewhere. That being said, would he re-sign for the minimum?

To me, losing these 2 would worsen the nighmare that was the 2005-06 season. Both guys look to me to be solid contributors & at times, even better than just solid.

I think both guys based on their performance could get the LLE without any problems. If there are any trades for either Francis or Marbury, there may not be a roster spot to get both of them. The Knicks have right now, 11 players with guarantee contracts for next season. If they hope to trade either Marbury or Francis they will need to take back multiple players in the deal with most likely will have guarantee contracts for next season as well. Also, they have 2 1st round draft picks in this year's draft as well (unless they trade the picks/or send their 1st rounders to the D League or pass on selecting a player). The roster spots will not be there. A bad game of musical chairs.

Also....I love the idea of bringing a player like Jay Williams who isn't a primadonna, non-defender, unitelligent & will be an appreciative, team player who has played in & dominated big (college) games. We could strike gold with that addition.

Losing Woods....who has as much ability of any SF in the upcoming draft would hurt. Losing Butler....especially with the unreliability of Curry and the horrendousness of Jerome James would be even worse.

In the coming months, there will have to be some hard decisions made about contracts and roster space. Other than Frye, there is not really any marketable players to trade. Rose or Taylor should be brought out but both will have value during the season because of expiring contracts.

Neither are Knicks original draft selections. They were given 1 year deals at the league's minimum.

With all the overspending we've done over the years, if we want these guys and don't do what it takes to keep them I will probably threaten to not watch the Knicks ever again. Of course it would be a very hollow threat, but the point would be clear.

On a side note: I heard JWill said he would not come to the Knicks unless they could guarantee him 35 minutes a night and design a system that would get the most out of his skills.

It would definately be a crime not to keep Woods and Butler. Both are coming along nicely. Knicks can't crack the safe on these guys either.

This off-season is gonna be crazy.....alot of fans are gonna be heart broken.

Could you imagine losing Butler and Woods and then having Marbs, Francis, J.Rose, Taylor and James all show up in camp next year? That would be hilarous.

If I see more than one of those guys I think I may be sick.

Woods and Q-Rich can play the 3 for now cuz Woods is a must sign and I doubt Q-Rich could be traded after the season he had this year. Rose and Taylor should be cut and just be done with that whole expiring contract BS. The Knicks need to consentrate on getting more expiring deals to delete some of the dead weight around the garden.

What did the Knick fans do to deserve this?

They buyout contracts. If you look over the past 6 years, that's what the Mavs do. They cut/buyout/trade players they don't want.
