Apparently, they sucked _so_ bad that the Knicks felt the ad was too negative. The ad never ran.

I think it's pretty funny that they made those ads to lower fan expectations and, ooops, they are probably too upbeat (or too accurate) to run.

How much are the Knicks worth? Didn't Spike's new movie, Inside Man--a good flick, btw--go to number 1? Why can't Spike own the Knicks?

A Spike aside: a couple years ago, very late, like 4am, on the night of a heartbreaking playoff loss that ended the Knicks season, I saw Spike get out a limo on West Broad wearing a Knicks jersey (Sprewell, I think) and carrying his luggage. He just stood in the middle of the road for a while, looking deeply depressed. Since we were the only people on the street, I said, in a more or less conversational voice "Next year, Spike, next year." He looked up, didn't grin, and said "No next year, man. They gonna suck. I dun wanta talk about it but they gonna suck next year."
