Mourning Blames Teammates Not Riley For Struggles
11th April, 2006 - 11:23 am

Palm Beach Post - Alonzo Mourning has been on the sidelines due to injury, but that hasn't kept him from weighing in on what he feels of his teammates efforts.

"We're responsible for that (expletive) we showed out there," he said.

"Whether we were mentally or physically drained, who cares?" said Mourning, 36. "That's the nature of the beast, it's the nature of the NBA. So you've got to perform and get yourself ready. We knew we were playing a back-to-back. It wasn't a surprise. ...

"I'm not pointing fingers. But, at the same time, I've been in this game long enough to know that you prepare yourself for the schedule. You be ready. It ain't no shock. Guys have to come out there and perform."

I read that too. I love it. What makes a guy sitting in a suit on the sidelines such a guru when it comes to his teammates could perform better. To me I think they have too much time on their hand, rehab more spend less time worrying about your teammates when you can't help yourself.

Alonzo is one of the hardest working players in the NBA for the past 10 or so years. I think he's earned the right to say something, butI'm sure someone will find a reason to not play hard because of the harsh, mean mr Alonzo.

That's my reaction too. I love the way Alonzo plays.

No one earns the right to say that his other teammates are trying hard enough. How does he know. How does he know that they aren't as hurt as he is, or other problems. That's is a general problem with this country as a whole. Everyone is quick to tell someone that their fly is down without checking theirs first. All I saying get better, step on the court and then make your comments. You think Shaq cares about what Zo has to say about what it takes to win, he probably just look at his 3 rings and look at Zo and laughs.

I think one of the problems with this country is that there isn't enough judging. Nobody wants to be judged anymore. I say judge everybody. Sometimes it's tough to look yourself in the mirror and someone has to say something. If it doesn't apply to you then why take it personal? Ignore it. But people that let it bother them tend to be the one's that are not playing hard and deserve the comments.

Alonzo is a vet that has never been accused of anything but playing as hard as he can from day one. He's earned similar respect as any coach in the league. But then again teh players don't listen to the coaches either so why listen to Alonzo.

So I am guessing you don't have curtains or shades in your home. That your family matters are open to community discussions.
Zo hasn't earned anything more than any of his other mates. Most of the Heat players that Riley assembled have success in both college and the pros. Shaq has 3 rings, where Zo's. You tell me that D Wade isn't trying hard to win games?? Hell even Williams produce in the pros and went all out. Walker can never be accussed of not trying to win, that guy maybe a goof but he is extremely competitive. To put out blanket statements like that is not helpful to anyone if you don't name names. So my question is who is not trying, Haslem? Who is not giving their all out there for them?

Just rehab and help out your team. It's like the same problem I have with Q Rich, if you have to qualify your statements like "I know I had a bad season..." Stop right there, and say hey I am going to rehab, I am going to work on my game, I am going to learn how to play through pain, I am going to make sure that I am not the weak link.

Zo has been tremendous for that team, all I saying is that he looks foolish to try to call out a team from the sidelines. If he thought it needed to be discuss hold a close door meetings. If he feels that won't help then Marbury may still have those sneakers "All alone"

I've had teammates call out our team many times over the years. When I was on good teams we normally took it to heart and took a look at ourselves. If it didn't apply to you, you ignored it and there was no harm no foul. When it did apply it kind of stung. But it's funny, everytime someone called us out like that, the next day we seemed to play harder. Funny how that works.

Totally agree with you...It just kills me when guys who don't produce do it...Like Q1 and Malik..
I have to look at these guy's comments in the press and look at their faces as MSG plays it up how much they care...Like Mike Breen the other day...Just look at the pain on Malik's face...It just hurts him to lose like this....I like it when K Smith tries to tell him, well you really can't say anything if you can't back it up on the court....
