From Insider:

The Warriors are trying to shake their young team out of an endless slumber. Can they get the process rolling by shipping Danny Fortson to the Knicks? Insider reported this weekend that GM Garry St. Jean has offered Fortson and Chris Mills to the Knicks for Charlie Ward and Travis Knight. Sources told Insider on Monday that the Knicks are mulling the offer, but still haven't offered a response. The trade should be a hard one for Knicks GM Scott Layden to pass on. While adding another undersized power forward isn't a need (the Knicks already have Clarence Weatherspoon and Othella Harrington), moving Ward and Knight for a player who is a top-five rebounder in the NBA is a no-brainer. The Knicks could use Antonio McDyess at center, especially versus the East, and put Fortson at the four. That trade would give Layden the green light to move Kurt Thomas for a real point guard. While neither Ward nor Knight could be expected to have a major impact in Golden State, their contracts both expire in two years, clearing about $6 million in cap room in 2004. The move, plus the addition of Mike Dunleavy, would allow Antawn Jamison to start at power forward. He complained last season that he was playing out of position at the three.

It still seems a little one-sided to me. I wonder if they dont also want to Knick's 1st rounder or Milos in the deal also. If it was just those 4 guys straight up the deal would already have been done. I would give them one of our second rounders but I am keeping the first. God forbid the injury bug hits and we lose a high pick for Fortson and Chris Mills.

Layden is really careful when dealing with trade offers and over-analyzes the deals way too much in my opinion. I think this deal is about as good as it gets. He can't hesitate on this one. Take the deal while it's out there. If we need to add a pick or some cash in addition i would still do it because we're not going to get a player as talented as Fortson in the draft anytime soon.
