Get Shorty
Never too early to speculate where Jeff Van Gundy will land. JVG loves his time off, but is itching to get back to coaching and that place could be a lot closer to the Garden than people think.

If Larry Brown gets totally fed up with Allen Iverson after this season, Van Gundy would jump to the Sixers, provided he can deal with Iverson. That shouldn't be a problem because the Little General has always adapted well to his team's star. Expect a new and gentler Jeff to come on the scene.

Van Gundy's old buddy Dave Checketts is back in the television biz, buying SouthWest Productions in Utah. SouthWest's biggest claim to fame is televising BYU events.

As for the Knicks, they should be landing their point guard soon, someone along the lines of Nick Van Exel or Damon Stoudamire, who is in the best shape in years, which, of course, means Portland is desperately trying to trade him. When a big man is dealt away in such a deal, expect the Knicks to bring back old reliable Patrick Ewing for a Final Farewell Tour.

I think Philly would be really good with a defensive minded coach. If they could keep games in the 80s and have Iverson score his 30-40 points a game, they could do real well.

I'm pulling for Stoudamire, not Van Exel. I think a package of Knight, Ward, and Harrington would work. Kemp is gone, so Harrington would be nice to spell Randolph and Wallace. Knight could back-up Sabonis and Davis, and another big body wouldn't hurt when they play against Shaq, Duncan, etc. Ward's contract is out soon, as is Knight and Harrington's. It says they'd bring Ewing back for a farewell tour, so then it'd be:

Knicks Lineup
PG-Stoudamire, Eisley, Williams
SG-Houston, Anderson, Postell
SF-Sprewell, Weatherspoon
PF-McDyess, Doleac
C- Thomas, Ewing

I guess that's better then what the Knicks currently have.

Philly isnt a young team. Van Gundy wants a young up and comming team. I could imagine him in Memphis, Golden State, or Washington. Not Philly.

I would trade Ward, Harrington, and Knight for Stoudamire instantly and i would even add a future first round pick. This deal would put us right on top of the east.

Nobody would do a deal without Thomas, period.

Portland is the one team that would. They have Wallace, Randolph, Sabonis, and Davis up front. They don't need Thomas.

But they know they can get him...I dont think a team is going to take scrubs for a good player - while Damon isnt an all star he is miles above Knight and Ward - Harrington is the best part of this deal, that and the expiring contracts. Who knows, we will see what Scotty can pull off because if he cant to anything then this season might be in jeopardy.

I think there has to be a deal out there for us. I would even go to the point of offering Ward and Harrington for Kenny Anderson. Seattle needs a solid PF and Ward fits a back-up role better to Payton than Anderson would. I would also look into getting Jason Williams, Travis Best, or even Moochie Norris.
