No, but this idiot named Chad Ford had a stupid trade that Seattle should go for with the Knicks.. I wrote him back and told him why would the knicks do a dum move like that.. This CHad FOrd should be out of business to even think about this trade!! Here it is! BY CHAD FORD!!!!! Seattle Super Sonics I've been inundated with e-mails from Sonics fans who wonder whether I have it in for the Sonics. Why do I always talk about trading star players like Gary Payton and Rashard Lewis? I don't have anything against the Sonics, I just take Wally Walker at his word when he says this team is rebuilding. And, I don't know how you do that with Payton and Lewis. They're both great players, but they're not enough to push the Sonics over the top. If Lewis gets what he's asking for and Payton gets that fat extension he wants, the Sonics will be handcuffed financially for years to come — thus the trades. But on the insistence of our readers, I made a flurry of phone calls, tapped some great NBA minds and worked out a Fixer-Upper scenario that makes the Sonics a contender without moving Lewis or Payton. In the long run, I'm not sure where it gets you, but for the next couple of years, the Sonics would be as formidable as anyone in the West.
Step 1: Hold your ground with Rashard Lewis The Sonics are still in a standoff with Lewis, and for good reason. He's a solid NBA player but he isn't worth the max money he's looking for. The fact that Lewis has waited this long to make decision bodes well for the Sonics. He doesn't want to take the Mavs' three-year, $15 million offer. He wants to be a Sonic. If the Sonics can convince him that they need to save the money to become a contender, he may just bite.
Step 2: Call up the Knicks The Knicks have been searching for a point guard and center all summer. They've been dangling both Latrell Sprewell and Kurt Thomas as bait. If the Sonics want to forget about the future and go for it right now, here's a trade that could make them contenders in the West. The Sonics would swap Kenny Anderson, Brent Barry and Calvin Booth to the Knicks in return for Latrell Sprewell, Kurt Thomas and Othella Harrington.
The trade would give the Knicks one of the most potent backcourts in the NBA and a tough blue collar rebounder in Thomas. Combine them with Lewis, Jerome James and a supporting cast of Desmond Mason, Vladimir Radmanovic and Predrag Drobnjak, and you've got a team that can challenge the top four teams in the West.
The toughest question is whether the Knicks would do this trade. Anderson and Booth are both upgrades at the two positions they need the most help with, but losing Spree is tough. The consolation is that Barry is coming off a sensational season. He's versatile, can shoot the three, hands out an enormous amount of assists for a swingman and he's a strong rebounder. This trade would definitely give the Knicks a different look. Whether it's any better is debatable.
Those moves would give the Sonics this opening-day roster:
Point guard: Gary Payton, Randy Livingston
Shooting guard:: Latrell Sprewell, Desmond Mason
Small forward: Rashard Lewis, Vladimir Radmanovic, Ansu Sesay
Power forward: Kurt Thomas, Predrag Drobnjak, Othella Harrington, Art Long Center: Jerome James, Vitaly Potapenko
The Future. GO KNICKS!
