I know its been beaten to death pro/con but here is a good quote from Mike Fratello which somes up what our coach is not doing.

This from a Newsday article http://www.newsday.com/sports/basketball/knicks/ny-spknix0325,0,1354713.story?coll=ny-sports-headlines
"We changed our defense in Cleveland," Fratello said. "There should be a purpose to why you're playing it the way you're playing it. What works for San Antonio and Detroit might not be good for us. You look at it and say, 'What can work for us?' You can't draw players to be what you want. You play with the guys you get."

You really think those bums care enough?

I agree with bigpimpin (maybe its cause I'm hungover?), but with the players we have, the 2nd coming could not get them to play well.
A glimmer of hope maybe?!?

i disagree with sim and bigpimpin and agree with mike fratello, another HOF coach (which seems to get a bunch of cred around here), oh, but fratello is another person who has no idea what he's talking about.

It's time for brown to embrace what he has and devise a scheme that fits his teams strengths.

I agree that Brown has not done a good job as a coach this year, but my thing is, can any coach win with these players?
A glimmer of hope maybe?!?

Why take a job if you are not going to attempt to play to the strengths of the team? Why force a square peg into a round hole? Why be a stubborn fool? LB should answere those questions? I hope LB can win 20 games this year. This is a .500 team, sorry to bring a dose of reality to the LB apologists.
We could be the Dallas Mavs of the East.

because unlike Mike Fratello, Larry Brown knows what a championship formula is & what's required to achieve it... unless you guys are trying to say you'd rather have a coach to lead this team to be a quintessential also ran (sorry, i've had enough of that during the past 30 years or so), i think i'd shut my mouth & let a coach who's trying to implement a championship winning mindset into this franchise do his thing... btw, the same philosophy that Pat Riley & JVG were advocators of in the past is what LB is trying to instill now (playing hard tough defense, sharing the ball, controlling the clock, not turning the ball over & causing t/o's on the other end)... coincidentally those 2 head coaches got us to the Finals... LB is working w/a young team w/an all new roster that's inexperienced playing w/1 another & you expect him to achieve results overnight... this team has shown glimpses this year of playing the style of basketball LB expects out of them & that's the best they've looked all season long, so don't try to say he's got to tailor his system to the players he has... we all know they're capable of playing that way... the problem is that they don't bring themselves to play that way on most nights... shouldn't we be blaming the players in that case? sorry to bring a dose of reality to the LB haters

i've bashed coaches like Don Chaney & Lenny Wilkens for the jobs they did while they were coaches here, but in both their cases they allowed the players to run the team (namely Stephon Marbury)... LB is the only 1 w/the balls to challenge him & make sure the players know who's in charge here... maybe you'll give him til at least the allstar break before you start bashing him the way you are... i don't think that's much to ask... this team wasn't making the playoffs this year regardless, so who cares what record they're going to end up with? so Chicago gets the #1 pick... what's done is done... if you want to blame someone for that, blame Isiah... he's the one who failed to get protection on that pick he traded for Eddy Curry, who btw hasn't lived up to his hype either... but i guess that's LB's fault, isn't it?

I see this same thing posted again and again. But the fact is there is no guarantee that ANY style fits this team. When you have
- no shot blockers
- no parameter defenders
- An abundance of bad decision makers
- little to no on court leadership
- limited outside shooting
- a post up player who is turnover prone and may be the worst passer in the game

exactly what round, square, rectangular or triangular whole do you fit in?

Everyone talks about running - but you need to get stops to run and you need guys who can pass - we have none
of the first and few of the latter. And our big problem is not our offensive style - it's our complete lack of defense.

If Herb Williams can coach a less talented Knick team to win 40 pct winning rate how come HOF Larry Brown can't? He has only offered cliches about "play the right way" blah...blah..blah. This Knick team reminds me of the Olympic team, talented and should have won more. If LB approached next season with the same approach of dissing players in the press then the results will be the same.
Pat Riley was smart enough to adopt a system to the strength of his players.

i love these guys who want LB to create a system to match the players this team has... let's see... a system to fit lazy, no defense playing, spoiled, no heart having primadonnas... maybe we should appoint Stephon Marbury as player head coach.

Is this a more talented team. Name one position where we are more talented on defense?

Besides talent alone doesn't win - you have to know how to play. Name all the high basketball IQ guys we picked up?

This is a bad team.

The team is totally unbalanced - NO Defense, no high basketball IQ players, too many ball hogs, no leadership. Last years team was better.
