KG: "You've Got To Add Some Major Pieces"
23rd March, 2006 - 12:01 pm
Star Tribune - Kevin Garnett agreed with some postgame sentiment late Tuesday that this group of Wolves needs more playing time together, probably a training camp. But Garnett wasn't about to leave it at that.

"But you've got to add some pieces onto it too, man," he said. "You just can't bring this team back. You've got to add some major pieces to it, and I think we'll be very solid for next year."

Moments later, he added: "You have to add pieces to a team and keep a core together. We've yet to have a core. I'm probably the only consistent thing that's been around here. ... I feel like the city doesn't really know the team. Hopefully, they'll take heed to what happened this year and fix that this summer.

Interesting take.

A sign and trade of Marcus Banks, Hassell, Griffin, and Blount for Steph and JJ? Or maybe a 3 team deal with Blount and Hassell going somwhere else?

this is our best hope to get rid of Marbs... trade him to MINN so he can reunite w/KG & find better success... get back their draft pick & Marcus Banks along w/whatever crap they wanna send over.

Yeah, KG and Marbury have hinted that they want to be united in some city I do see this as the best place to send him, though I am not thrill with what they have either though. No way do you get their pick if you want to send a guy out just as bad as they want to get him.

I'd love to see this. We can work out a deal that's decent for us and I'd love to see KG and Marbury play together. Marbury would finally get his chance to play with a superstar veteran.

Blount
Hudson (to be waived)
Jaric
2006 #1 pick (#9 right now)

for
Marbury
2006 Den pick and SA pick (21 & 29 right now)

I'd prefer to do a 3 team deal so that we don't have to take back three players, but I'd love to move up from 21 & 29 to 9. Would Larry, though? Maybe; it means one less rookie for him to have!

that's horrible Bonn... you're giving them both 1st rounders & Marbury for that junk & a #9? we have to get back Marcus Banks as part of that package at a bare minimum.

I don't think Marbury has much trade value at all and moving up from the 20s to 9 is huge. That wouldn't be my first offer, obviously. You always start high, but if that were Minn's final offer, I wouldn't turn it down. I want to move both Marbury and Francis and if I can get a mid lottery pick for each of them, that would be great.

McCants wouldn't get any playing time here w/Q Rich, Craw, Jalen & Francis left over here anyway... Marcus Banks is the better option & MIN could afford to lose him if they were willing to take on Marbury in a trade like this.

I think Banks is a good athlete and is more of a hybrid ( small 2 guard with some pg skills) and I'm not sure he would be a good fit to run Browns team.

Your right about McCants probably not getting time on this team and it shouldn't be that way. We need to be rebuilding with youth. McCants is a much better option for our future than what we have (Qrich is garbage, Craw is a sixth-man) Rose is done after next yr and Francis will more than likely be shopped this summer.

I wouldn't worry about playing time. Id just bring McCants in, and worry about moving Qrich later.

This is the way the Knicks must build there team. They can bring in a talented young player, but they ave to bring back a horrible contract with it.

i don't think the problem is as much that Marbury's a shoot first PG as it is his bad attitude, unwillingness to play D, & unwillingness to take on the leadership mantle the way LB wants him to... i think if Banks comes in & conforms to what LB tells him to do, plays defense, & keeps his mouth shut, it can work.

I here what your saying. I'm not opposed to bringing in Banks, I would just love to see McCants brought in as well. McCants just makes more sense playing along side, Frye, Lee and Curry as they can all grow together.

Unfortunately, I don't think Brown see's it that way. Can't see him bringin in another young player which makes it even more depressing. We finally have young players on this team, and a chance to build around the youth, but it ain't happening.

Lack of desire to play D? What the heck have you been watching? Steph has been playing hard on D, but really when it comes to PG's you can't expect them to be shutdown players all game. Its really who they have out there with them that helps the better defensive PG's to be able to shut down a player. Steph can't go out and aggressively guard a guy like say Mike James cuz if he does there isn't much help behind him if James gets by him and he will get by him at times like most PG's will do, just as Steph blows by most other PG's even with help. Its about TEAM defense. When will you guys ever get that. You think Nash, Parker, Arenas, AI, Bibby, Terry, Cassell or Kidd are better defenders than Steph? What's happening is that other teams have better TEAM D and thus do a better job of closing off ANY penetration, so it makes any PG look better when he has help.

I don't think Steph should be traded. We need to add a pure shooter, Defensive Swingman and a shotblocker, in addition to allowing our younger players to develop. That doesn't have to mean trading Steph. I fail to see how that would really make the team BETTER.

I think KG will be pushing for Starburied to make a full circle back to Minny.. Mchale realized he won't be able to get this team back to the playoffs unless they come up with a deadly trio.. so far they got KG, Ricky D. and Starburied would fill in the 3rd spot..

I hope it happens then Assiah take the job with the college team in indiana.. that would be a blessing for NY fans..

Clearly, Steph is not a leader nor play defense.. he's a poison.. better off trading him and get people in here who wants to be a team player..

Problem is the trade Makes sense for the Knicks.....but the amount of players coming back doesn't make sense at all.....If the Knicks flat out Waive guys like Rose and Taylor then the Knicks can take on more players but the Knicks don't have the roster spots....plus the Knicks have tons of players that do the same thing.....If the Knicks trade Marbs they still have Francis......

So I dunno what to do....

You make a good point about guards blowing by other guards and team defense. My only disagreement is that Jason Kidd is a far superior defensive player to any of those guys on your list and that is one of the things (rebounding is another.) that separates him from them as one of the great players of the past ten years (As opposed to Nash, who just started bringing it like Kidd in team leadership last year.).

Good luck Mike D'Antoni, 'cause you ain't never seen nothing like this before!

first of all, i don't recall anyone on this board calling those guys strong defenders... but AI? please... Marbury can't sniff his jockstrap on either end of the floor.
