Magic grateful to Isiah

According to an NBA official familiar with details of the Knicks' trade with Orlando for Steve Francis, Magic officials were pleasantly surprised that Isiah Thomas didn't force them to accept another contract along with Penny Hardaway's expiring contract and Trevor Ariza.

It was the perfect opportunity to dump Maurice Taylor's remaining two years. The Knicks could have taken back a player or two with expiring contracts and saved themselves Taylor's $9.75-million salary next year.

"How could that happen?" the executive said. "It's unbelievable."

these writer's kill me with their "coulda's & woulda's"... they have no clue as to what was discussed during those trade talks & yet they spout off about what should have been done as if they were in on all the dealings from the start.
After 7 years & 40K+ posts, banned by martin for calling Nalod a 'moron'. Awesome.

Hey as always hindsight is 20-20, but what occurs to me is that Isiah should have from the beginning looked to dump veterans and accrue draft picks. He should have hired a young coach who runs an uptempo system and works well with young players. This would have put him in position to play off his greatest strength, drafting, and lay off his biggest weakness, trading. I think he could have sold Dolan on the excitement of building a young, athletic, fast-paced team and told him that we may miss the playoffs for a couple of years but we'll then have a system that's set up to get us there consistently.

Where have I heard that before?

Well, I personally take it for what it is.....a rumor that has no real standing anywhere. Honestly even w/o dumping a contract we did rob them and on top of that they really had no contracts that match up unless they were going to ship us Battie (who they were happy enough with to resign to a long term deal).

http://www.hoopshype.com/salaries/orlando.htm

We traded them Penny, Christie is retired so they can't trade him, Garrity makes 3.5 mil, Augmon and Outlaw make about 1.5 each (maybe a little more)......I wouldn't have traded Taylor but looked more to ship out Malik (who Larry likes so we aren't gonna trade him) or JJ....what would the trade have looked like?

Penny, JJ, Ariza for Garrity, Augmon or Outlaw, and Francis. Now that is robbery. Seriously, we made out decent in the deal on face value...so we spent money which is never of consequence to us anyway.

You can't judge this trade until after this off season. What if having Francis allows us to pull a PHX and trade both him and Steph for something like a JO, or even two lesser players like maybe Dalembert and Harrington?

Too much hindsight.

Over and over too much hindsight.

Last nite was awful! Listless.

The most fun was watching Stevenson and Marbury going at it and Marbury bombing away.

Orlando anouncer was funny saying "marbury is not long to be in the game soon". Larry yanked him. Deshawn team won. Enough said about who won which battle.

I think Stephon needs to play on the playground all summer and just get it out of his system.

Our defense is awful! End of story.

stop acting like you just know Isiah knows what he is doing. He doesn't!

Our record sucks.

he's a bad, bad, really bad gm.

DLee is the best thing to happen to NY in Isiah's 4 year tenure. And that alone, though a positive on the radar, is sad as hell.
