Layden has left no stone unturned. Other GM's have said Layden is very active. He's looking for that Gem of a trade to put us over the top. Layden if you are listening go for:

Brevin Knight as starting PG

Erik Dampier as starting C

Brevin Knight? He does have a nice contract expiring after 03-04, but I'm not sure how they would get him, and he doesn't help our height problems (only 5-10).

I wouldn't go near Erick Dampier, his contract ends after 05-06, but he is a pretty good shotblocker. I still don't think KT is that bad in the middle. Knicks would probably have to give up too much for Dampier.

Boutjme Boutjme is a restricted FA, so they'd have to resign him first. At least then we'd have a young, legit center. He might not be as good as Ewing, Mourning or Mutombo, but it wouldn't hurt to give him a chance. The only thing is that Portland are said to want expiring contracts :/.

Doleac will be fine with a supporting cast of spree, houston, dice and stoud. Were not going further than the 1st round anyway. Unless you have to trade thomas to get the pg, he's still trade bait. Plus, Layden's waiting to get something better before he settles on Ewing and oakley to save his asp from a angry mob. While far from young both Oakley and Ewing know the Knicks system, MSG and the crowd. Would up their game several notches and can still be effective with their experience and knowledge. ALl in all bringing them back with a decent pg could easily make a shi--y season interesting.
An older, slower Ewing qho STILL won't give Houston the ball, oooh, I can't wait!!!

The idea is the PG gives the ball, not Ewing. His wrist suck anyway and he'd just be put in for a few minutes. He would just be there for leadership and height in the shot blocking defense side. He can't run th ecourt so he wouldn't be used much. Still I'd rather see his back on the bench in the 12th spot than travis knight or spencer-even if bothcould add more to the game than ewing.

As far as Oakley, you need someone in the game bumping, and jumping into the stands- Last year these guys stood around with there thumbs up their noses. Plus, like I said bringing the pair back would add a fews years back to their game.

I hear Stoudamire showed Andre Miller up at a USA team scrimmage the other day. I hear he's bigger and stronger and might still be the best point guard in Portland. I think we should offer Harrington or Spoon and fillers plus a first round pick because he seems to be worth it now. I also wouldn't mind signing Ewing for a year just out of respect and also that he gives us very good size and is better than most of the remaining FA centers remaining. I don't want Oakley because we already have a logjam at PF and he would be the worst of them all. I would also consider trading for Olajuwon because he's a step ahead of Ewing still and can put up solid numbers in 20 minutes per. I think we could offer Spoon for him. Thoughts?

right now Damon is a 12.5mm dollar liability for the Blazers. we have three PGs on the roster and a fourth on his way next year. If we even that desperate for a grade up in PG for one year then R strickland could be 1.6mm for 1 and out.

If the Knicks trade with portalnd it has to be in a position of strength and HAS to include Andersen. here is my deal and it includes 0 drfat picks from either side.

We give them Andersen Harrington Ward for Damon and Zach randolph.

Benefits for both. Portland gets rid of 40mm dollars worth ofbench warming material in damon. They get a high caliber consitent back up player in harrington who replaces Shawn kemp. They get their third PG who is of high quality[played in 100 or so playoff games] and the player only has two years left before he comes off the books. they get a slashing forward who is more of a west coast player. he can back up Scottie Pippen[who always gets hurt} we get damon and zach Randolph a good highly skiled young player who has been sitting on the Blazer bench wasting away. At 6-9 270 he can play some center and back up PF and has real nice touch around the basket + damon

Total money considerations Portland has roughly 42mm going out and the Knicks are sending them roughly 57 + ward comes off the books in 2 years.

I would even add a second rounder to pull it off if we had to... Sounds like a nice solid trade...

I like that trade too. The Knicks rotation would be:

PG- Stoudamire, Eisley, Williams
SG- Houston, Postell
SF- Sprewell, Weatherspoon
PF- McDyess, Randolph
C- Thomas, Doleac

I can't see how the Knicks don't benefit from that.
