We all know how reliable this source is, but I might as well add to the rumor war. From HoopsWorld.com:

Damon Stoudamire has asked to be traded. Whether he wanted to be traded or not, the team had every intention of shipping him out of town. The team will most likely complete a deal with the Knicks sometime this week. Rumors had Stoudamire headed to the Big Apple for a combination of players or to Minnesota for Anthony Peeler. At any rate, Stoudamire should be headed out of town and soon. -IP

we'll see what happens. None of the trades that have happened this offseason were mentioned in any of these so-called trade rumors so I'd take this with a grain of salt.

What would the combo of players be? A bunch of expiring contracts? The acquiring of these huge contracts for expiring ones has to stop one of these days. I like Damon as a player though, and it's not like the Knicks will be under any day soon, so I guess I'd like the trade.

Just fooled around on RealGM, and Ward/Harrington/Knight for Damon works. Ward and Knight have a year left, and Harrington has 2. Maybe the Knicks could use the rest of the exception on Popeye Jones, a good rebounder.

Knicks Lineup:
PG- Stoudamire, Eisley, Williams
SG- Houston, Anderson, Postell
SF- Sprewell, Weatherspoon
PF- McDyess, Jones
C- Thomas, Doleac

Stoudamire would be a great PG to run Chaney's fast break offense, and the bench would have 2 good rebounders (Weatherspoon and Jones). Eisley would be a decent backup for Mighty Mouse.

Who would you prefer Damon or Van X? I guess Damon if we dont have to give up Thomas, but I still think we need a legit big man or else this team is going nowhere.

Amen, i was thinking the exact same thing.

Wonder if there is anyway we could pry Dale Davis away as well?

From TSN:
"Stoudamire's contract -- nearly $45 million over the next three years -- is prohibitive, but in a package with shooting guard Bonzi Wells, he could draw interest. Several teams are rumored to be interested, including the Timberwolves, Knicks and Pacers. . . ."

Thats a well known rumors. The Knicks wanted to get Stoud by trading either Houston or Spree. But, Portland wants some of the Knicks smaller contracts like Ward, Knight, and Thomas. Ironically it could be the same deal that Philly wanted for Mutumbo. But Stoud only has 2 years left instead of Mutumbos 4 year insane contract. I like Stoud but we need a center too. If you get Stoud I think we get ourselves out of the runnning for a decent center.

Is this the Peter Vescey effect? If you need to increase readership or site hits, make some stuff up and let it rip. Interesting info about Hoopsworld though.

Because Portland doesnt want Spree or Houston. They want 3 smaller contracts for Stoud. No one will trade Spree straight up for a center. Plus we get screwed big time if we trade Spree for a Center. Because the quality of Center we can get for Spree isnt that good.

Doleac will be fine with a supporting cast of spree, houston, dice and stoud. Were not going further than the 1st round anyway. Unless you have to trade thomas to get the pg, he's still trade bait. Plus, Layden's waiting to get something better before he settles on Ewing and oakley to save his asp from a angry mob. While far from young both Oakley and Ewing know the Knicks system, MSG and the crowd. Would up their game several notches and can still be effective with their experience and knowledge. ALl in all bringing them back with a decent pg could easily make a shi--y season interesting.

Portland wants Thomas part of the deal. Thomas,Knight,Ward is the most likely deal.

Then we should ask for boumtje boumtje back...or i think we should work a 3-way deal with the warriors where we get dampier and the warriors get qyntel woods .. i really don't see him getting any playing time for Portland with all that talent...

I think it's all just speculation. TSN and Hoopsworld wrote about it a week or so ago, but then we found out that Hoopsworld lies and we already know that Sean Deveney at TSN isn't the sharpest tool in the shed. Insider today discussed Damon's possibilites and the Knicks weren't mentioned, so I doubt anything will happen.

But the thing is, all the deals done so far this off-season, nobody had reported any rumors about them before hand. Nobody would have guessed that Bigdog would be Hawk, or Deke a Net. I doubt the press know anything about the deals that will happen, it's all been very "inhouse" this off-season.
