Which one of them will see more minutes off the bench this year? With camby and thomas starting, one of them will have to play a lot of minutes at the power forward. Though i haven't seen a lot of Weatherspoon, i do really like Harrington and i liked what he brought to the team towards the end of last season. He works hard and deserves minutes are could put up very good numbers in 20 minutes a game. What i do know is Van Gundy is a firm believer of the eight man rotation, which means he will rotate three players at power forward and center. I'm hoping LJ doesn't see too many minutes because Spoon and Harrington are much better especially in the knicks type of style. My guess is Camby will start along with Thomas and Harrington will see the most minutes off the bench. Spoon will see some minutes just because of the type of player he is and Johnson might see some minutes as well. Thoughts?

I think Spoon will get more minutes than Harrington. He doesn't have the back-to-the-basket moves Harrington has but he is a much better rebounder. He is more dynamic inside so I think he'd be a better bench player than Harrington as he'd gives us that instant spark.

The only problem with that is assuming Thomas and Camby start, sometimes you would be stuck with having Thomas and Spoon up front. It would be much better to have Harrington and Thomas up front when Camby is out because you're not considered undersized anymore. My guess is JVG will have to find time for both of them, but i guess we'll just have to wait and see.

I think Harrington will be traded before the season. We have way to many PF's and Spoon is slightly better than Othella. Othella fouls too much and Spoon is a better rebounder. I like Othella but we really dont need him with the addition of Spoon and Wright waiting in the wings. Not too mention LJ who may not be finished yet. Man o man all these pf's and no freakin centers!!!! Layden your an idiot!!

Yeah, I agree. Othella has a very reasonable contract, and a good reputation, making him very attractive to other teams. He also has a player option after this year that could free up cap space for another team. I do think Spoon has a better all around game and would be more benificial to keep for the win now at all costs Knick management.

I do agree that harrington makes great trade bait and is a nice player to have, but i would love to hold onto him. As of right now, he's really the only big man we have with a back-to-the-basket type style of play. Thomas plays mostly facing basket and Camby scores mostly off garbage points going from one side of the basket to the other. Weatherspoon plays with that same type of style as Camby except he's not as big and as durable. LJ does play pretty well with his back to the basket, but usually ends up facing it anyways.

If it was up to me, i would only trade harrington for someone bigger and better because he can help us a lot this year. I expect Van Gundy to run some plays for him which will increase his scoring and allow him to be more consistent. In 20-24 minutes per he can really put up great numbers; maybe around 8 points, 5 boards a game.

Othella hasn't hit his prime and already he's attractive for other teams. He needs to mature and work on his game but I'd love to keep him on the team.

HOWEVER, the current management seems to be looking at the present instead of the future and in that aspect Othella is tradebait.
With Kurt and Spoon the PF spot would be secured with the possibility of Camby,LJ and maybe Wright backing up in case of foul trouble (maybe even Maceo Baston, whatever happend to the only rough diamond on our summer league roster?). We need a biggie as maybe Camby will break his own record for games played throughout the season but I'd like him fit for the playoffs as well.

Longley gone..
Knight a benchwarmer..
Weis a nightmare that won't go away..

The thing is about Othella you just know he'll wreck some monster games in the future, but we apparently don't have that luxury with our roster.

I definetly like Harrington more then Spoon which the orginal topic was about. He's younger, bigger, makes less money, and is better with his back to the basket. Spoon does rebound better and is probably as good, but is currently seeing his best days while Harrington's are yet to come. Unless the right deal comes along, i feel we should keep Harrington and trade Weatherspoon between december 15th and the trade deadline unless he really makes a large, unexpected impact.
