Marbury: We Still Don't Know System
5th March, 2006 - 7:25 pm
New York Post - Despite there being just 24 games left in the season for the New York Knicks , max-salaried point guard Stephon Marbury claims that the team still doesn't know how to run coach Larry Brown's system.

Marbury's statement came after critical comments by Brown following recent collapse against the Chicago Bulls . Brown claims the Knicks did not run the plays he called on four straight possessions down the stretch, which lead to the collapse.

An indictment on Brown? Marbury left it open to interpretation.

"We're still trying to figure out what we're supposed to do on the basketball court," Marbury said. "It is unusual but it is what it is."

Marbury's remarks came after Brown had questioned his play at the end of the Bull game, when Marbury got his layup blocked and didn't run back on defense as he argued with an official. That led to a wide-open trey by Ben Gordon that thrust the Bulls into a 102-101 lead with 32 seconds left.

After seeing the tape, Brown used choice words.

"I saw the play. I saw it on the film. I'm not happy about it," Brown said. "You can't expect anybody to do that. There's no excuse for that. I gotta believe he cares and won't do it again. It happened and it hurt us."

I don't even know what to say. I just think this goes back to the Knicks basketball IQ. The basketball IQ on this team is so low, it's ridiculous. The team is full of NBA losers who have been castoff for just this reason, they don't know the fundamentals of the game. You can even date this back to earlier in the year when that report came out about the Shot-Clock thing where a Knick player didn't know what the shot-clock was or what it meant, whatever it was. I know Brown's system is hard to grasp, but with this group its like teaching a 2 year old how to do calculus... it just aint happening.

nyk4ever - low IQ (whatever that is)

... or too many random changes in a game that is based on trust and rhythm?

It's like putting together a rotating jazz quintet that changes unpredictibly witih each nightly engagement based on available musicians

or a Broadway play composed of stand-ins in starring roles

would you expect an identical interpertation of the script or the improvised solo passages every night?

None of these guys with the exception of Malik and the rookies could 'get it' with their other teams, thats why the Knicks have them, they got em cheap becuase the other teams knew their limitations, Isiah was dumb enough to pick them up. Marbury, Crawford, Jalen Rose, Eddy Curry, these guys have absolutely no basketball IQ. NONE!

If i had to guess, I would say that Marbury is using this as an oppurtunity to take jabs at Larry Brown.

He could have just as easily made these remarks in private to Brown, or Isiah

Larry Brown is proven to be a winner. Marbury, the opposite. So I will have to ride or die with Brown, and not Marbury

its the same thing as regular IQ. When your low it means you are dumb. We have a bunch of dumb players and its a big part of the reason NONE of them aside from Malik have ever won anything in the NBA. Idiods like Marbury are more worried about a bad call against them then they are about winning the game. Thats our season in 1 play
