2000 we picked up ultra high flyer Mark Cuban fave Donnel Harvey.
2001 we didn't have a draft pick. I think from the Rice trade.

Weis was the 1999 debacle

2000 and 2001? We were still a playoff team iirc... losing to the raptors in the first round, etc

Why are you sorry? It's really a good convo actually. We had A LOT of draft picks actually, from the Ewing trade, along with our own ones (For those 2 years) and we wasted them all. Just another chapter in what remains to be the freefall of Your New York Knickerbockers.

Harvey was a guy that I thought was going to be a great pro. I remember he played on that Florida team that played in the NC2A championship game and he was a ferocious rebounder, even as a freshman. I thought the Knicks had a sleeper when they picked him and was disappointed when they shipped him for I believe Erick Strickland.

Harvey, though, never developed. Another one of those guys who should have stayed in school.

The 2000 and 2001 drafts were pretty weak. The 1999 draft (Tapscott) was the worst. Taking Weis over Artest was unforgivable.

And even in the 2nd round, taking JR Koch over Todd Macullouch, who was projected as a first round center at one point (and a possible selection at our pick). Sure Todd had to eventually retire, but he was a useful big guy and good rebounder for a few years.

We desperately needed to reload with some good youth in those drafts, as the Ewing era was coming to a close.
