if this continues and they can't make a push to the playoffs:

- Marb to the Wolves OR
- KG to somewhere on a good enough team.

I have been a proponent of moving Marbury to Minny for McCants, Griffin, Minny's first rounder and one to two manageable contracts. This would have made more sense before the Franchise deal.

This move would have shown a commitment to rebuilding and shedding salary. Also, Griffin is a much better alternative than Ratliff if you consider Griffin's age, contract and his shotblocking numbers. McCants has a chance to be a really good player in this league.

Probably in NY only. Why would KG leave Minny, as bad as they are to come to this mess?

no idea, you'd have to ask KG that... but there's definitely something to the rumors that he wants out, & the Knicks do have something to offer MIN in a trade... of course, there will be other suitors in the mix: Nets, Pacers, Lakers, Mavs, Clippers being the other likely options.

KG has to find a team that he can go to that have enough people left over AFTER the swap and enough DURING the swap to justify it. I think TWolves would want a big back too.

Nets = RJ, Krstic, Collins & #1 for KG leaves him w/Kidd & Vince to play alongside
Pacers = O'Neal, Granger & Jasikevicius for KG leaves him w/Peja, Jax & Tinsley (Peja will have to be re-signed though, so that's another issue)
Lakers = Odom, Bynum, George & #1 for KG leaves him w/Kobe... nuff said
Mavs = Dirk, Daniels & Devin Harris for KG & change leaves him w/Josh Howard
Clips = Brand, Radmanovic & Livingston for KG reunites him w/Sam I Am, along w/Cuttino, Kaman & Maggette
Knicks = Marbury or Francis, Frye, 2 #1's & taking on MIN's crap contracts for KG (probably the least attractive for KG, but might be attractive for MIN in terms of cap relief they'd get)

i think from a competitive standpoint, the Nets, Pacers & Clippers offer KG the best chance to contend.

Isiah likely anticipated getting KG [& Wally] for 29 mill in expiring contracts this year.

lakers would be his best option. i'm sure some good vets would take pay cuts to play with kobe&garnett.

I would say that Indiana would shy away because they like building blocks that are young and Granger/JO may be too much to give up.

Now way for Dallas - they just got too much of a good thing going.

LAL, LAC - sure.

Nets, only if Brooklyn deal depended on it, and they sure would rather part with Vince and not RJ.

Knicks - of course.

I see Brooklyn rebuilding for its new arena. I can see them dismantling this team next year and starting over.

In all seriousness, why does KG want to come here and why is Minnesota going to accept Marbury or Francis?

why would the Lakers accept a package of Brian Grant, Lamar Odom & Caron Butler for the most dominant player in the game, Shaq? because he wanted to go there... again, no one's saying it's a given that KG wants to come to NY, but if he asks the Wolves to trade him here, they'll find a way to get it done... as i said before, those other teams probably have a better shot than we do from the Wolves' perspective, but the guy who has the ultimate say is KG & the owner of the Wolves on where he's going to be traded to.

difference between Shaq & KG, Shaq was approaching free agency. Shaq had more leeway because any team trading for Shaq would have to

1) have Shaq want to resign with them

1a) give a significant portion of their team to make salaries match (like Miami who lost 3 starters in the deal) because of his contract.

Do you risk blowing up your team for a 1 year rental of a declining Shaq?

Well there were reports according to SAS that KG thru his agenst explored the possibility of a trade to NY...But SAS said that KG did this thru a 3rd party...If he wanted something to actually happen that KG would have to spk to the owner directly....

I don't however see why Minny would want Marbs and his contract...

I think one of the main reasons he would want to come here is to play with Marbury. He said he and Marbury have patched things up and would love another shot to play along side him.

However, he also said, he would prefer they hooked back up in Minny, but I'm sure he said Minny, strictly for PR purposes. Also, don't count out Isiah's influence. As much as he may run people the wrong way, many players around the league love him.

This is what Dave D'Alessandro has to say:

The KG Chronicles
We don’t accept the premise that the Wolfies, whom the Nets play tonight, have to trade Kevin Garnett this summer in order to emerge from the abyss they’ve dropped into.

It is far, far easier just to dump the guy who has created this mess, because Kevin McHale’s decision to employ so many D-list players (Marko Jaric, Michael Olowokandi, William Avery, Ndudi Ebi, etc., etc.) and overpay so many others (Joe Smith, Troy Hudson, etc., etc.) to orbit the greatest talent in the universe is a crime against science, notably the chemistry department.

Glen Taylor, however, has this demented Dolanian loyalty to ne’er-do-wells, which means McHale is probably going to be around for a while.

So Nets fans -- and you know who you are – are operating under the assumption that KG will become available this summer, because nothing else has worked for Zeke West. You’re assuming that McHale is stupid enough to part with the best player he’ll ever have because every other option has been exhausted, and that KG himself will eventually get to the point where he’ll scream for sanctuary.

We don’t know KG, but we know whom to ask when the subject of his commitment to Minnesota comes up, which is often these days. And from what we can gather, these are the immutable truths that you have to consider before sewing a ‘21’ onto a Jersey jersey:

1. KG has an opt-out for 2008. So why would the Wolves feel the need to move him anytime before the summer of ’07? If they haven’t done it yet – with his market value at its apex -- they probably won’t do it at all. And they certainly won’t feel any urgency to do it until the trade deadline of ’08.

2. The Wolves will want players back, not expiring contracts like other rebuilding teams go for. The reason: There is no documented account of any quality free agent saying, “Minneapolis in January! Count me in!” And that’s even with Garnett around as a teammate. So it is unlikely the Wolves would trade for someone like Vince, who has an opt-out in ’07.

3. KG is a loyal kid who firmly believes he belongs in the Great White North. His detractors – again, people who know him much better – would say that he wouldn't welcome the pressure of big markets, where he’d get smothered with criticism even if he isn’t the reason for team underachievement.

4. Besides, if you move KG anywhere, he has to think about what kind of assets his new team would have left.
