Yeah, he worked with what he had, and didn't try to force his own "system"

Nellie. Give him more than 17 games!

We gave LB 50 games and already calling for his head. Funny!

With the squad we have, Hubie Brown. Overall, I'd go with Pat Riley. With the right squad, JVG would be excellent, as well.

JVG is a Larry clone in a sense which is not a bad thing.....More a Riley clone really, he runs the same D....But Jeff has no clue offensively...much like Larry....When Jeff was here, his big problem is that he wasn't creative offensively...There were newspapers articles saying they should hire an offensive guy to help Jeff....

Of those I would have to say Pat Riley. I think he's shown he knows how to work with different kinds of players - from the ShowTime Lakers to the Knicks, to the Heat.

I also think Wilkens or even Chaney would've been a better fit for this team than Larry Brown. I understand the Isiah had to hire him when he came available, but it has not worked out AT ALL. I think Larry would've actually matched up better with the Ward/Eisley/Anderson/Weatherspoon/Doleac Knicks.

Otherwise, give us a young coach.

Riley.

It's always said that the great coaches adapt their system to the players they have rather than the other way around.

Brown has demonsrated that he is not a truly great coach.

Red Holzman without a doubt. His system was simple, he didn't have big or athletic players but they played as a team and moved with ballet type precision. He didn't have the best players but functioned like a machine. The defense was a helping man to man and the offense was based upon finding the open man. Frazier dominated the ball but rarely shot early in the clock or the game unless no one else was hitting.

I don't recall ever seeing Red coach players that didn't fit his system.

Well, from what I hear, he requires "Larry Brown" players, so perhaps you're right. Or maybe he was playing politics and it got out of hand. Just because he's from New York doesn't mean he knows how to navigate its treacherous waters.

What was his system? Defense? How about Earl Monroe? Henry Bibby?Cazzie Russell? He utilized their talents to fit his system.
He was a great coach.

Red Holzman was quoted as saying something like this to his players,

"on offense you do what you want, on defense you do what I want"

Don Nelson never had his players either

Nor did Don Chaney

The diference was that both simply did their jobs without playing the blame game
