#1: trade latrell sprewell - sprewell was great for us for 4 years but unlike houston, sprewell will not have a break out year this year in my opinion. i love spree but he will not get better with age. we need to deal him now. and the person we get for him must be good enough to be considered part of the core, the nucleas, the trio of houston, mcdyess, and whoever we get. andre miller and baron davis are outta the question. marbury, payton? rasheed wallace? they will be VERY VERY VERY hard to land.
#2: get rid of anderson - the guy sucks, period. deal him for a REAL backup center. doleac shouldn't even play. weatherspoon won't even play. trade harrington and anderson for dampier.
#3: PLAY DEFENSE THIS YEAR - if ya wanna run don chaney, go ahead, but please don't think your the dallas mavs. in order of importance, get stops defensivley, rebounds for more possesions and have the moto "hit the open man".
#4: hire thibodeau - if we are below .500 or only 1 or 2 games above it by christmas, we need to fire don chaney and hire tom thibodeau. he's the next JVG. he could be a coach with a long tenure, 7, 8, 9, 10 seasons of good winning ECF or NBA Finals year in and year out, NYC basketball.
#5: get younger slowly - not darius miles younger. but look at these guys. paul pierce, baron davis, mcgrady. in 2000 when mcgrady was on toronto, he averaged 15 points per game. supposedly allan houston was the more impressive player. now look 2 years later. we need to find a guy who is good but will only become much much better. bonzi wells comes to mind, jason terry. so does kurt thomas. i can see kurt thomas as a 18/11/2 guy next year. thomas is built like willis reed. 6'9", 235. reed was one of the best knick centers ever. (2nd to ewing). thomas can play center, if he can play PF when dampier or someone comes in for mcdyess.
