Reality

we have 12 guaranteed contracted players next year

NOT including Q Woods and J Butler

Our salary structure is already HIGHER next year than it is this year

I dont see us as players for the MLE for any player, simply because it doesn't make sense--

we need to contiue finding guys in the draft and USING them--even if they take both picks and move them up for one player--its a much cheaper proposition than spening a 32mm $ MLE

If we cant get rid of guys like Craw they HAVE to play, even as back ups
how can we say we want to spend another 30mm on guards?

we already have 50mm$ tied up in our guards marbury francis crawford q and nate--thats more money than many teams entire payroll.

Im going to go back and say this, I hope some guys have graet end of year play, because we can use some ending contract deals just to get flexibility

if we make two draft picks one of butler or woods is gone.

What about using the MLE on a rugged PF like Reggie Evans?

I want to use logic here and I hope the dunces at MSG read this. We drafted a very good PF in Channing frye--we have two picks where we should be able to get 1 lONG athletic 4-5 for 1mm a year. there is 0 reason we need to spend ANOTHER 30+ mm on a Seattle REJECT who found his way to the bench. Now granted he is a better reject than James, but hes not worth that money and we need to have FAITH that Frye will start, faith that we can find a suitable back up in the draft+ understand we still have Mo taylor. I want to see the FULL transition of Frye into a 35 minute+ 4-5. What we need is another 4-5 guy

we dont need evans --- hes a good rebounder, but hes smallish in terms of defense and has little offensive game

we need guys who can play 4-5 who can block some shots get some easy baskets etc.. and if we can do this BY the DRAFT we save tens of millions

on top of it we have david lee who is probably as good a rebounder with many more skills.

if we neded up with

Curry
Hilton Armstrong
Frye
Lee

were set with taylor used as a last year back up.

Assuming no trades over the summer which completely change everything, I absolutely agree with you.

How high do you think we can package the two picks to climb? Who do you suggest we draft at that spot?

the problem with Larry Brown - he doesn't understand this and wants a vet who knows the nuances of the league.

2 for 1, 3 for 2, etc. trades are impossible? Contract buyouts are impossible? Regardless, a minimum (not maximum) of 3 roster spots are up for grabs.

Speaking of 2 for 1, now that the trade deadline has passed who are we going to sign to fill the #15 spot?

First, there's something called a "ten day contract!" I don't know how much those are but I highly doubt it's 400K. (Why you're bringing up money as a deterrent for this organization is beyond me.) Why would the Knicks do it? To try out a player and see what he can contribute. Maybe the next Ben Wallace, John Starks, Anthony Mason, Marquis Daniels, or Udonis Haslem is out there for pocket change and can become a significant part of our future.

Anthony Parker is available I think, Willie Green (whom I like alot but he plays the 2 guard spot), George Lynch, Sprewell, Bo Outlaw, Leon SMith (that's the guy Zeke wanted last year instead of Butler), Marcus Fizer,

To add some rebounding & defensive grit. We need some tough guys on this team that are willing to go out there and clean someone's clock. Don't really care about the offensive impotence with the fire power on this team. If he were a few inches taller he could probably command double the MLE.

If we can add someone like that through the draft, great. Don't really watch college B-Ball, save for the occasional game here & there.

As far as the free roster spot goes, I doubt we sign anyone. Not much out there. Unless it's to take a look at a Butler-type player.

In all Honesty, my top 3 are Willie Green (I know he is a guard, but if we sign him now and put him on the IL and let him heal, thin the guards we have now he would be a great pickup), Marcus Fizer (Kenyon Martin Light I always liked him), and Lynch (as a defenive presence off the bench).

yeah, we don't need to sign anyone, we need to find time for the youth we have. if someone gets injured, bring a guy in maybe, but we have plenty of depth.

I think Reggie Evans would be a decent add depending on who we trade this summer. Our starting unit does not need offense, it has too many offensive minded players. It needs defense and rebounding. I'm not too up on what Reggie Evans' defense looks like, but I know he had one of the best rebounding rates of all time last year.

Reggie is only 26 and honestly at season's end he will command a starting job somewhere in the L-- Minny (with KG if they keep him), Cleveland, GS, Houston, the Lakers, Philly, Portland, and Washington are teams that he can probably start for right now. No way he signs with us IMO.

quick question..
Is the MLE a tradable asset?
For instance... can you trade Nate + MLE to another team for a player making around 6 or 7 Mil?

i think Evans is what JYD used to be in his younger days... he plays good, hard defense, he's athletic, he's a good rebounder & he likes to do the dirty work that other players don't get much enjoyment out of... that said, i'd still much rather give minutes to David Lee than to sign a guy like Evans, unless we get rid of Mo T & Malik... then having a guy like Evans would be good for our team depth.
