Brown has been fired everywhere he's been and created turmoil and made players miserable. That's his track record. He cherry picked a championship on a loaded Pistons squad that will probably win again this year and be far happier winning it without LB.
this is such an utter crap arguement I don't know where to begin?
How many people predicted Detroit to win their championship? They were such underdogs it wasn't funny.
Also, did Jackson cherry pick his championships? I mean the dude was handed Jordan and Pippen in their primes. And if that weren't enough, he Cherry picked Shaq and Kobe.
And the Pop guy, he was the GM until Duncan showed up, right? That guy is such a loser for waiting until Tim D arrived.
Brown has a huge ego, and so do the people he works for. They fire him because they can't handle his personality and his meddling. But it don't make him a bad coach.
Last time I looked all the important guys on the Detroit team LOVED Brown.
Obviously, San Antonio was the pick to win the championship that year, but Derek Fisher's miracle turn around with .4 seconds left turned the series and let an inferior Lakers team sneak into the finals.
And, yes, I would argue that Jackson gets overrated as a coach because of the situations he hand-picked. How is Phil doing this year with Kobe and Odom? Decent, but not exceeding expectations.
Look, you can say whatever you want, but Larry Brown is known around the league as next town Brown and while Chauncey and Iverson are quick to praise, there are plenty of players who hate his guts. He wore out his welcome in Indiana, San Antonio, LAC, Detroit, etc, DESPITE having great success. Those teams decided that the wins weren't worth the attitude and the crappy attitude he created amongst the players.
How is that an utter crap argument? it's fact. Hey, I think Brown is a better coach than Phil Jackson, his coaching job to get that Sixers team to the Finals was brilliant, but let's be honest here, he submarined what could have been a great team by trading guys like Larry Hughes for nothing. He wound up taking a team of his guys to the Finals, but that team had no chance in hell of beating the Shaq/Kobe Lakers in their prime. The Detroit thing, he did a nice coaching job, but they were only 4 wins better than they were with Rick C and they added Sheed. The East was weak (Kmart/Kidd were banged up, Artest gave away game 6) and they faced a weak Finals opponent (Lakers were imploding under Kobe's power play, Malone was out, Payton was sulking, Shaq wasn't the same Shaq anymore).
Brown is an excellent tactical coach, but he's showing that he can't adapt to players who don't fit his philosophy and he has EXTREMELY well documented issues with wanting too much roster control and pissing off players.
