Even if they let Penny walk or limp his way into retirement the Knicks are still so far over the cap that it wouldn't make a difference. They will not be able to sign free agents until they get over the cap which is estimated to be in the year 2057.

Some say we should just let expiring contracts expire without taking on more salary so we can eventually get under the car. After next year the Knicks will have alot of contracts coming off the books. But they will probablt trade alot of them away in an attempt to improve the roster.

Knicks could cut cap if they wanted to but this is ny. I was too young to care about losing records When ewing got here. What was that like? The latter part of the 90s were terrible. When I started caring about wins and loses the year before Riley got here.

that's kinda what i figured. penny's contract could be part of the solution but that solution requires a couple more such contracts. given the choice of either acquiring those expiring contracts or taking the shorter path of grabbing a couple more 'players'...the knicks will take the shorter path and hope to catch lightning in a bottle. figured. cool. at least we know where we stand...fingers crossed! thanks guys. eg
