Nate Robinson + Malik Rose + SA pick for
Fortson + SEA 1st round pick.
We have heard rumors that Seattle wanted Malik, and I think Nate is very well appreciated there. So I think this can be a fair trade for both teams. Fortson contract expires next year too. The Seattle pick should be around #10 overall.
I would do it, but I think they might want a little more. Seattle's pick is projected to go in the low-lottery. How 'bout Malik, Frye and Ariza for that package, and we keep that lower SA pick. That would give us 3 picks in the upcoming draft - I think it's a solid draft at least 1-30 and there'll be steals in the 2nd round as well. I know it's taboo around here to include Frye in trade rumors, and I like him, but think about it...
i wouldnt trade frye.......not for something unknown or someone unproven.
I hear ya, Jaydh, I just don't think that Frye is really that proven either. I think he's a terrific jump shooter but the other parts of his game frighten me a little. Look, I know he's still a rookie. Rome wasn't built in a day, I understand that. I think it was Rich who said it best in another thread: "He's a good jumpshooter with a willingness to play inside." I agree with that assessment. We've got to give him time. Just in the overall scheme of things for the Knicks moving forward though, I think that if this deal ever presented itself (Frye, Malik Rose and say Ariza or Butler for Danny Fortson and Seattle's lottery pick) it would have to be something I would consider. Shit I'd make the deal!
Seattle just lost Radmanovic and even though they picked up Wilcox who adds a little more toughness, they still are gonna miss Vlad's perimeter game - that's what might make Frye attractive to them. Frye instantly replaces Vlad's perimeter offense with a very good chance to be even more than that - I'd say Frye's upside is clearly better than Rodmonovic's.
Now for the Knicks, if we can turn that pick into a Shelden Williams or Rodney Carney, two experienced seniors who come from two excellent college programs (two players I would say are as proven as it gets at the college level), then we made one hell of a trade. I think that Williams would be an excellent inforcer-type to play alongside Eddy Curry (the type of intangibles Charles Oakley provided alongside Ewing for years) - something we need badly and something Frye might never provide. And if Williams is gone, then hopefully a Rodney Carney is still around. We're gonna need a small forward eventually (Jalen's a nice stop-gap but he's short-term) and I can't think of a better athlete in the entire draft than Carney. Phenomenal array of skills and someone who would help the Knicks for years to come.
Anyway, that's how I see it. I'd dangle Frye in front of Seattle and see what they say. And this is the type of trade I'd much rather see Isiah make than some dumb trade involving Penny for God only knows what junk (bad long-term contracts, malcontents, players who might be injured, etc). He's got to keep the future in perspective and a trade of Frye to Seattle for their pick clearly is still about keeping the future in mind.
