Penny for Rashard and Danny Forston straight up. No picks or anything else. Dumping Fortson gives Sea a lot of options and significatn cap space. They may use it to re up on Vlad Rad and or Evans but regardless it gives them options. Lewis is looking to opt out anyway and this gives them great options for the offseason.

not bad, but I'd much rather get Reggie Evans. I'd throw in the SA pick and or Ariza for Evans and buyout Fortson.

Not bad? Have you seen Lewis play? Sonics would never give him up that easily.

That was one of my top choices for Penny's exp contract (http://www.ultimateknicks.com/forum/topic.asp?t=14294) although I had us givinig up more because I can't imagine Sea doing your deal.

no way in hell would a team give up a young star player on the rise for an expiring contract only.

Right now Penny would be more help ful as a door stop than what he has done thus far!

Of course, he could help catch fish!

Chum bucket would be a good use for Penny!

well, many places have mentioned that Seattle is one of the four or so teams interested in Penny's deal, so you have to wonder what they're interested in getting off their cap.

also, gross, Nalod.

Speaking of catching fish, and going off topic here, this Summer I'll be going out to Montauk, and jumping in a shark cage to watch sharks! Fun isht!

if you were SEA, wouldn't you expect Frye in return in order to give up a young talented allstar calibre player like Rashard Lewis? i mean, come on, use common sense.

Lewis is pretty heavily flawed himself. No defense, he might be leaving and it's not like what's going on in Seattle is working much better than what's going on in New York.

Yeah...We give you our garbage. You give us your all star swingman who is still young. Typical bull**** trade proposal.

Anyone who thinks we could get Rashard Lewis, Jalen Rose, and a top 5 draft pick for expiring contracts without giving up one young talented player, one good veteran, or one draft pick simply drastically overvalues expiring contracts.

Lewis has a reputation for being soft. Its a 98% given that he's opting out of his contract at the end of the year in search for something in the max range.

Evans and Vlad Rad are also FAs as well.

And yes... I like Lewis a lot but he is flawed, and he's not an all star. This deal gives them a lot of flexibility. If it doesnt fly I would give them their hometown Nate Robinson, but I would rather keep the picks at this point.

lewis is a decent player but another one in the offensive mold. we gotta get some of the unsung guys like bruce bowen.

i'm just very scared right now with our decision makers. i'm not sure what they're thinking or who they're going after. it looks like lb is now involved in that process and that could be a good thing as it removes total control from isiah's hands. time will tell...

even for argument's sake, Penny, Nate & Ariza for Lewis, Fortson & Flip, i still can't see them making that one w/o a pick included from our end.

even better.. they dont have to deal with a guy in his walk year playing for a massive contract probably from another team, and Sea saves even more cash.

Teams trade all-stars out of fear of losing them to free agency in the year their contracts are expiring, usually within a month of the trade deadline. I can't think of any examples like yours where the team traded the player 1.5 years before he was an FA out of fear of losing him to free agency. They'd spend the extra time to try to change the player's mind.
If like you suggest, they're just looking for a salary dump, they can still get MUCH better. I bet Dallas would give up Van Horn for Rashard and Fortson. Other teams would give up a pair of expiring contracts for that combo.
