"It's going to be tough," the Knick official said, noting that Denver would like more than the Knicks are presently offering (Channing Frye and Penny Hardaway). The Knicks could have a better chance of sending Malik Rose to Seattle. The Sonics like Rose and are interested.

So not interested in Kenyon Martin it's not even funny. This thing's got Antonio McDyess written all over it...

Martin is certainly a better defender than odom, even with the injury.

Martins defensive ability as well as speed and athleticism in the open court - huge.

Jermaine O' Neal and Antoine Walker walked out of the CAA two years running in handcuffs courtesy of Kenyon.

^That's the thing, Martin's game is based on speed and athleticism--even more so than McDyess. After knee surgery you just don't take the risk...unless you can get rid of Jerome James in the process.

even with the injury, he is young and a great defender. He's worth the contract risk, but not worth giving up Frye.

Just for what it's worth, a Denver fan's take on the KMart situation (I asked my friend out there if he'd be happy or sad to see KMart go):

I think a major part of why he is freaking out right now is the
rumors coming out of NY. Isiah is doing a good psych job on Kenyon,
making him think that he is unwanted in Denver.

Martin is similar to Dice was when the Knicks got him. I have the
feeling that he will return to his previous greatness, but it will
take some time. In the meantime, the rest of his body seems to be
falling apart.

On the other side, he proved Friday that he still can go out and have
a great game. The Nuggets, if they trade him, have to get a big name
in return. An expiring contract like Penny Hardaway will not do,
because it would sent the message that the Nuggets are giving up this
season. Yes, they could use that money to definitely re-sign Anthony
and even Nene too, if they do not fear a little of the tax.

The Nuggets have been ****ing around dangling Watson, Nene, Lenard
and now Martin out there for trades. This is affecting the morale of
the team. Yes, they are still in first in their division (or
conference, whatever they call it) but, that is no big deal. They
would not have home court in the playoff because five has a better
record.

I would like to keep Martin and do a sign and trade with Nene for a
shooter.

Would I be sad if they traded Kenyon? In that it would say that Kiki
has given up on him, yes. I think that a trade with Watson and Nene
can bring us a good shooting guard. I have less confidence in Nene
than I have in Martin. Nene needed this year to break out beyond
just potential. He has major holes in his game. He is good
defensively, but has not brought along his rebounding and scoring to
a higher level. Martin, when healthy, can be a 15 and 8 man.

and that to me is not worth frye. right now frye is giving us 13.5 and 6 in his rookie year. if he is not a bust, it should only get better. besides, martin seems to be sitting every few games because of his knee. kmart is severely overpaid for a 15-8 guy. i'd pass on kmart unless it didnt cost us frye. its just not a fair trade. i would almost not even put lee in the deal because i see lee as someone who can be a 10-10 guy. who knows if lee or frye will become the defensive player kmart is, but i'll take a chance on rookies who have the ability to be better and who will come at a much cheaper price. i hope isiah does the same.

He's been a 15/8/1.5 player in 2006 (Jan and Feb) with excellent defense. It looks like he's having closer to a Jason Kidd than a Penny type of recovery from knee injury/microfracture surgery. I think he'll continue to be a good player with very good defense and toughness that won't show up in the box score. I wouldn't give up Frye for him, but I would give up Penny and maybe one young player. I'd give up Lee if they removed top 5 protection from their 2006 pick.
